Hi,
I am planning south India trip in jan/feb, Want to cover below places
Rameswaram
Madurai
Kanyakumari
Kodaikanal
Munnar
Any advice on whats the best way to visit these places, Do I book one vehicle from Rameswaram and complete all these or take local taxi.
It's more of dharmic + relaxation trip, do you guys know any other place not too far from these which I can cover in the trip.
Thanks,
Are you planning to fly from Canada to South India? Which airport you are planning to land? If you objective is to go to these places, then I would recommend flying to coimbatore which will be from Chennai mostly or even Mumbai would do.
From Coimbatore, you can hire a taxi, and first go to Kodaikanal, then to Munnar, then to Madurai, then to Rameswaram and then to Kanyakumari. From Kanyakumari go back to Thootukudi and catch a flight from there which will take you to Chennai. If you follow the above route the driving time between each of the two destinations will be 3-4 hrs+

Your suggested route sounds good as I don't want to spend more than 4-5 hours traveling on any day.
I am taking flight to delhi will stay there for few days, and then from there going to chennai for 1-2 days and then from there planning to visit Rameswaram/Madurai/Kanyakumari/Kodaikanal/Munnar and then back to chennai or mumbai.
AC car is the best and fastet wat to travel.
I suggest you take a flight from Chennai to Madurai and hire a cab from Madurai. Get a TN+ Kerala T board vehicle.
The rate is around Rs. 14 to Rs 18 per km (In kerala the minimum is Rs 20 per KM) plus driver Bata.
Madurai - Rameshwaram - Kodaikannal - Kanyakumari - Kumarakom- Munnar can be your itenary. You can catch the flight from Cochin after coming from Munnar.
Before you visit Madurai, we have Trichy (Rockfort+ srirangam), Tanjore (Big temple), Gangai konda cholapuram.
Chidambaram is also good (religious).
For fun, you can visit Black thunder at Coimbator. Cochin is also a historic place with Lulu mall, Chinese nets, old Jewish town, WOnderla (water theme park).
Trivandrum is a cursed place (in terms of places to see) except for Padmanasamy temple which is supposedly the richest temple in India.

Thanks TK!
I am thinking of below route
Chennai to Rameswaram by train.(I am travelling with my Parents and they do prefer train over car)
Rameswaram to Kanyakumari by train.
Book a car in Kanyakumari and continue on below route
Kanyakumari to Madurai
Madurai to Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal to Munnar
If time permits Munnar to Kumarakom.
Do you guys see any problem with above plan.

Lemon,
If you see the map of South India, the plan is not good.
Let me revise the plan for you.
First stop should be Madurai. There are a lot of trains from Chennai to Madurai.
From Madurai, you should go to Rameshwaran.
Rameshwaran to Kodai road and then to kodaikanal.
From Kodaikanal to Kannyakumari.
From Kannayakumari, you can take trains to somewhere near munar (roads are very bad and one lane roads and so huge traffic jams will be there). From that railway stn to Munar.
Alternatively, you can take a train from Kannyakumari to Kumarakom and from there taxi to munar.
From Munar come to cochin and take either train or flight to whereever you want.
TN has some of the best roads (all toll). Kerala has some of the worst and narrow roads in the country.
