Hi,
I would be coming to Toronto in the next week on a project with my company. I would be staying there for the next one year or so. Two colleagues of mine are also coming along with me. We are coming with our families (wife and kids) and the office is in the Markham area.
We would be loooking for fully/semi furnished apartments 1BHK in a good complex which would have recreation facilities and be convenient.
Could anyone guide us as to how to go about it.
Would it make more sense to take a fully furnished acco or take an unfurnished apt and then buy the furniture second hand?
Any pointers regarding price and cost of living would also be helpful

Hi,

There is plenty of rental accommodation available in every area and you will have a choice between staying in a high rise apartment or residential home. Usual lease term is One Year. Most apartments may have some facilities like Gym & Swimmingpool etc. Most homes will have a private front lawn and a backyard. Also, most cities have recreational facilities (swimming pool, library, skating rink, basketball courts, splash pads etc etc.) available to its residents at no or nominal costs.

Initially, I suggest you to stay in a hotel/motel or with friends/colleagues (that you already know) for a few days till you find a place that meets your requirements. Furnished accommodation is a bit difficult to find. Usually, you maybe able to buy new furniture at affordable prices at IKEA and used furniture at 'Gagage sale' (people disposing off their unwanted household stuff) or 'Moving sale'.

A Realtor (Real Estate Salesperson or a Broker) will be able to find you and your friends accommodation of your choice in your preferred area. Services of a Realtor would be free as they would be paid normally by the home owners and all Realtors have access to a centralised database (MLS or Multiple Listing Services) of the accommodation available for lease & sale all over Toronto & neighbourhoods. Some high rise apartment complexes manage their own rental, and therefore these are not available to the Realtors.

Good Luck and do not hesitate to contact me (contact@Rajeev.ca) if you have any questions.

I have seen a lot of websites which provide information about unfurnished apts in complexes.but i haven't been able to see any comprehensive website which provides info about furnished apts in complexes. I don;t want to take a basement apartment or rooms in someone else's house. Could someone provide some pointers to the same.
Also is Canada Left Hand drive (like US) or Right hand drive (like India)?
Where would you get good second hand cars
Also what is the cost of petrol there?

We are Left Hand Drive in Canada. Keep in mind we share the road with US (not literally)

Tons of places to get a used car. Just pick up the Saturday Star newspaper (www.thestar.com) & there's an entire section on used cars, private as well as dealers. You can also check most of the ads online.

Now that's a tricky one. Depends on which part of Canada. In Toronto, these days, we pay around 0.835 cents in the morning and around 0.763 cents at nite for regular unleaded fuel. Ya, that's right. The price changes almost every hour. I'm not getting into the finer details, else I'll just get people started. On a side note the morning prices were upto .93 cents about a week ago.

Out in the West Coast (Vancouver), prices are higher.
