I don't think Sachin can be compared to Hayden in any way. Hayden is an extremely agressive player who still plays with a lot of focus and technique.
Sachin these days seems content with his Godly status awarded by the Indian media and people despite a very mediocre record in recent times. Plays a very safe game and loses his wicket faster than you can say "out" when he tries anything risky.
I'll believe him when he hammers a McGrath or a Brett Lee.

Let me offer a correction here. Matthew Hayden has played in 46 tests and not in 49 as I had written. 13 of these tests were during the first stage of his career, where his average was a mere 26. That average has now climbed to 57.67, due to great performance during the second stage of his career. 33 tests, 15 centuries and an average of 70 as quoted by G.G appears to be correct, but valid only for the latter part.
Sachin has lost his focus. Now that people has elevated him to a demi-god status, he no longer is a player but a star. Recently Imran Khan said that 'Sachin is not a match winner', which was said in comparison to Viv Richards of WI. I certainly agree with him. Sachin is a player with great talent but he is unable to deliver the goods when it matters.
Now India has a more dependable player in Dravid than Sachin. Dravid is fast catching up with Sachin in averages- 54.37 to 56.57, and will soon overtake him.
