It's not just our fellow desis. I find that people in general in the GTA are rude, arrogant, idiotic and very unpleasant.
and no, I am not comparing them to Americans. Anybody living in the smaller Canadian cities / towns will agree that people in these smaller localities tend to be nicer and more polite (not to mention more helpful).

Microsoft - Which end of the stick do you want today?
Agreed 100% with John26 & DT ... Haligonians were quite friendly and warm .... but lack of desis is also no less a plight ... You can't do without them , you can't do with them .... its a love hate relationship ...... Maintain distance and be safe and sanitized

Fido.
i would say....you got to be smart enough to find whos trying to trap you in a relationship involving their gain.....

A Proud Indian!!!!
You are still carrying a mental block for Desi's (may be due to past experience in India)
Just chill and mingle more with non Desi's and you will find both have their benefits.
When I landed in TO i wanted to be far away from Desi's, but sensing ground realities (number of Desi's in TO), I made peace.
Use to hang out with Desi's during lunch and dinner and with non desi during beer time.
One thing i learnt from my work place, if you want to say "NO". don't say straight "NO", but say this way ( Canadian Style )
Acutally / honestly "i want to do it for you but unfortunately i am not able to do it .........So.......Soooooorry.........
P.S. : Whatever above said is based on situation or condition you stuck.
You Happy and other side people happy too.......
just 2 cents from myside.......
Cheers...........
Rest of Canada is no exception. You will find such people everywhere. Indians in general do have a tendancy "to use" others to their own advantage. That cant be helped. In general, it is just a reflection of the erosion of honesty, integrity etc.. from our society.
Get to know people well before accepting friendships. And help someone in need, if you can. Dont expect anything in return. Don't lose heart. Take it as a thankless job. "Give the world the best you have, and the best will come back to you"
Best wishes.
Thanks everyone for the posts.....looks like there are good people in toronto too ....
