I don't want to sound like a dedh shana, but oh well who cares...I am sure at least half of the folks on this forum are not sure what they are doing is right career path. So if you ask opinion then you will get 100s conflicting ones.
Your immediate need is to earn bread for family. But there are folks who worked in restaurant now owns those restaurant due to the experience they gotten and wisely managed their funds. Many franchises prefer the folks with restaurant experience even though they have less cash.
Also it is a good thing that you are considering 8 hr job as part time. Keep exploring your QA career in the remainder of part time. You need to keep updating your skills because it is very tempting to get involved in the work that you are currently doing and loose the focus.

All the best!

Thanks manserwadekar, ashdfc and other members for your encouraging mails. Definitely I am considering this job as a part time only.

Meanwhile i am preparing for GMAT to get entry in MBA and if i get admission i will start pursuing next Sept 2011. By then i want to earn something so that i can put my savings for my livelihood during my MBA course. I hope after getting MBA from one of the good university like McMaster, WilfredLaurier or JMSB - Concordia, this degree could land me a decent job, if not great. Otherwise i would think of returning back. After having this degree along with my 9yrs of s/w experience i would be bond in India :).

Thanks.

If that is so, it is not 'taxable salary' right? Or is it?

Right, it won't be.
Depends on whether the $3,000/month is gross or take-home.
If it is gross i.e. before witholding taxes, then $36,000 is indeed the gross annual income and (assuming no other sources of income) the taxable income.
However, if $3,000 is the take home pay then some taxes have already been witheld at source depending on the TD1 form filing.

I think very less since it is close to the poverty line. also if you have kids they will qualify for full child benefits.
