Life: Why some women don’t wear dupatta?
Started by: desi in ottawa on 24 Apr 2006
...I have observed that some women (majority south Indians) don’t wear dupatta when they dress in salwar-kameez. I don’t get it and I am baffled. At least put it on one shoulders and cover one side of the chest. Many south indian women, specifically from lower middle class families and who come from smaller cities know only to wear sarees, now wear salwar kameez (nothing wrong) after moving to the wonderland, don’t wear dupatta. Why is this? Even moms wi...

General: Query about attached passport
 Started by: pratiks1 on 01 Jun 2009
... I got a new passport from the Indian consulate here, and they have attached the old passport to the fresh one. My worry is the canadian immigrant visa is stamped on my old passport, though it is attached to teh new one, and the landing paper too has the old passport details. Will this be a problem with the authorities at the time of landing? The reason was genuine - There were no pages on the last passport, and I had to travel, hence the new passport for the visas. Any feedback, friends?...

If not, our government will approach the global community for its endorsement to send the Indian Army to Pakistan," he told an election meeting at Airu village here. "However, we will like Pakistan to first use its might to stamp out terrorism and dismantle all terror networks operating from...

Life: Indians are Girl Child Killers
Started by: jayaram on 23 Feb 2007
...I always thought it was in India that there was more pressure from family to have kids. You have to follow the plan...2 yrs of marriage, then first kid, then 2-3 yrs, then 2nd kid. It also seems to me that in a lot of Indian (arranged) marriages kids are a filler. What I mean is that after a few years of marriage people need something to keep them busy so kids are a good option. I saw a couple who literally didn't have much to say to each other after they'd put their kids to sleep, which was quite sad. For those who genuinely want kids, it's great. I don't think everyone does, but such an opinion is vi...

Our Native Country!: Ahmedabad, India Wins 2010 Sustainable Transport Award
Started by: Garvo Gujarati on 13 Jan 2010
...om there last week. It is amazing to see Amadavad getting transformed into a world class city. There are challenges, many challenges, but they are overcoming each one of them one by one. It is hard to alter existing cities, built pre automobiles, and the way China tackled Shanghai and Beijing, I guess would be a good model for any Indian cities. At present Amadabad is too dusty - lot of construction work is going on everywhere. Another 2-3 years and it would be a different story. Wide roads, many ring-roads, fly overs, the river front, Kankaria, sky scrapers, and many more. [/quote]...

Our Native Country!: Can India be truely developed in our lifetime?
 Started by: rahul_singh23 on 10 Oct 2006
...ket. Indian economy is based on its consumption than exports like China. India has the highest number of educated, highly skilled professionals in all fields and with education being made more accessible we would have more educated and skilled people in times to come. In terms of Investments, entrepreneurial skills Indians are second to none. Look at the case of the Maran brothers from Tamil Nadu. They have made SUN TV a billion Dollar company and have been instrumental in bringing in Who is Who of the world to invest in Tamil Nadu. If two brothers can do it, how many more are there to follow. If India fixes its infrastructure we will be a force to reckon with in the next 10 years....

Kaun Banega Pradhanmantri: ...Dear Indians, Finally, I feel a bit happy about the fact that Mr.s Sonia Gandhi has decided not to take the post of PM. Well I have nothing against her as a person. She may a very good human being, but the fact is that she is not Indian born and hence, I persoanlly can not accept her as PM of India. I wonder why senior congree leaders even went to her, as if she was the "only" hope for India. It is ridiculous on their part. Thanks to POLITICS. I gues...

Started by: EastWest on 22 Mar 2005
...et). My parents got it in a month. You would be better off taking the PR card and returning resident permit before leaving Canada if you are still interested in settling in this country. Please note that when you board a plane to many countries in Europe (Even for transit) you require a visa with your indian passport if you dont have a PR card. This is checked few times at the airport. The reason you dont require visa while coming to canada is because of your canadian single entry immigrant visa...

They are still a lot cheaper and economical for travelers and tourists alike and the Industry will slowly start to boom as people will get to move from place to place on a regular basis.    ... to have an equal opportunity to make money by contracting out the development, manufacturing, tendering, and distribution of these so called identity documents. Why an NRI should be spared then. Even though they left the country, they should take the suffering with themselves. Hide but you can't run from Indian Bureaucracy and Babudom. Man! India never cease to surprise me. Something really went bad in 1947 with respect to the initial policy making on a clean slate, which carried on to the present day. May God Bless India; and give us strength to deal with the foreign depute Babus....
