If your doc prescribes a medication that can be got over the counter (e.g. supplements), then u need to first ask the pharmacist abt it (they keep it with them on the shelf behind the counter). In the past I have to shell out the handling fee ($11) which I think is a BS, just to take the bottle from the counter and giving it. The insurance would not pay since they are supplements. Finally the chic in COSTCO told me the truth (this was the first time I went to COSTO pharmacy). So far I must have spent nearly $80 in handling fee where it was available at the pharmacy counter.

Try grocery stores. Their dispensing fee is not as high if you donot have Costco membership. I buy mine from Dominion grocery store. I get such a super service as the guy now knows me. Since we chata lot about many topics in health field, he knows all the medications I take. So any time I go I get a personal advice tailored to my needs.
Walmart has the cheapest pharmacy.
Shoppers drug mart has the costliest one.
I have costco membership and costco's pharmacy is very cheap. In case any of you need to go to costco, you can use my card free of charge.
Some local pharmacies are cheap. Near Dundas and Hurontario intersection, Cooksville pharmachy is good. Was recommened to me by a Canadian but desi doctor.

A pharmacist at Wal*Mart told me about the same deal that DIO wrote about.
She was kind enough to explain to me that the dispensing fee will be unnecessary in this case and that I was better off just picking it up myself and checking it out in the regular way - not worth paying the dispensing fee, then submitting claim to insurance, etc.
