My comment:
Very nice article. Gives you the (only) positive aspect of Canada. If you are an experienced IT professional with 5 + years of Solid IT experience (esp. in USA) it is a breeze to get a good job in Canada.
Congtatualtions! We are glad that you made it . All the very best for your future in Canada.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
excellent article...gives hope to people waiting for PR
This article actually reflects the majority of South Asians' story in Canada. Let us face it, we are a successful lot. All you have to do is look around you. Generally speaking, Canada is a land of opportunity. It is only a matter of time before you realize it. For some, the opportunity or the realization comes quickly. For some it does not, until their children thank them. Finally there is bunch that is destined to languish in despair. There is no pleasing them.

The message from the article:
All the horror and true stories from this site should not discourage those who are trying to immigrate. Everybody just gives his personal experience and are doing a big favor.
It is upto you to see the glass as half full or half empty. The author saw it as half full and made all the planning. He expected worst and got the best. A very pleaseant surprise indeed. However, all the stories good or bad will tell you what to expect and may be you can make a decision if migrating is for you or not.
I have a friend who was so established in India owning factories and now reduced to working in a factory. she said I wish I knew this was the situation here, I would not have migrated.
I personally wish when we migrated, we had access to the information current immigrants have. Thanks to the creators of this website. We came without much information and took a leap of faith. However, we have absolutely no regrets.
Now whenever my relatives ask me if their kids should move to Canada, my only advice to them is to research the experience of people with similar backgrounds i.e. education, industry, employment history. If they have been successful in settling here then I would say try to migrate. If you have job everything falls into place.
I am still waiting for the day when someone who is NOT from IT /Construction background, or NOT with US working experience will post such a success story.
I have seen many successful people in Canada who got success soon after landing - but they were all IT background people, and mostly with US experience.
Would like to see a story from a person who had achieved success or placed highly in India/Gulf/South east asia or even East europe, and was in fields like Finance/Accounting/Marketing/Economics/Banking/Pharmacy/Arts/etc., and got success here in Canada.
And this one is for Lana - you have first hand experience of a successful and very highly educated and well placed person (before coming to canada) struggling with temp jobs of clerical nature - though you have been here for 5 years - while you yourself had to change your main profession from Finance to IT and got success only then. Would you like to say something about that - how do you see the glass in that scenario???
