How to get success? By: I stumbled upon Canadian Desi today just by pure fluke. My boss advised me to put an advert in the classified section of this awesome web page. I just could not help stealing a bit of my office time to read the articles of different people. I have friends and families who have moved into this country. Some are successful and some are not. Therefore, I am not very surprised to see on the forum a mixture of both successful and not so successful (YET) people. article.php?id=52 |
What's up with these accountants? leaving plush jobs to go in their own business! Just wait till he builds an empire selling heatpumps ;-)
I was offered my first job in US as gas attendent when nobody else will hire me by an accounting guy. He used to be with a Big Six firm and decided to leave to join his brothers in growing business in auto repair, towing and gas station.
Now he is my mentor. I saw him grow his company in 90s 10x.

I had this gentleman trying to sell me a bi-energy heating system for my home. He mentioned(in other words) to me that he realised, late in life, success is not only measured by the $ you make but by the way you sleep at night. He used to be a high flying accountant with Arthur Anderson and has made a lot of money. However he recently gave up that life and now sells heatpumps making much less. Being divorced twice has thaught him a lot of things including the fact that he did not spend time with his kids when they were the age of my children.

This can be a subject for an interesting debate. I guess the argument should begin with 'what does each one of us have control over?'. Isn't Luck - a factor, no question- generally out of the domain of individual control? After all, luck in the purest sense is really nothing more than working on probabilities and praying for the dice to fall right. Basing life-decisions on sheer luck would hardly seem like a sound approach.
Taking pure, random luck out of the equation would leave us with solid tangibles such as skills, knowledge, abilities, experience - aspects we can exercise choice in - to bank on. Just for a moment consider everything being the same, what is it that distinguishes one from the other in obtaining a position in a chosen field with a class-leading organization, holding that position successfully and progressing up the ladder, whereas the other with similar skill/knowledge/abilities languishes in beat-up, dead-end, zero value-add job?
The answer may lie in the approach- the process- the successful person employed. What is the bottomline? Isn't it áttitude' that is at the 'back-end' of all our achievements or the lack of it?
I would assert that attitude is a blue-print of our individual psychological frameworks. It reflects self-belief, positivity, adaptability, and will, and also drives who we choose, or exclude, to associate with.
