I have some INR 5lacs spare to be invested either in India / Canada .
If I have to invest in some mutual funds in India which one would you recommend ..... my lock in period is 1-2 years and portfolio should be 40% secured and 60% Equity .
Alternatively are there any investments in US / Canadian market which give comparable returns as Indian mutual funds ??
Someone advised me once to invest in Infosys - the stock will always grow .....
CDs who have a knowledge/experience on mutual funds please advise ....

Anyone thinking to invest in RE in Blore or Chennai, be careful abt brokers. Also there is lot of hype. If someone (trusted relative or friend) can do the work for you, that's great. They need to some groundwork relating to current prices. After all, we are talking lakhs of rupees.
A RE broker in Mysore has told potential buyers that "NASDAQ is coming to Mysore". This is nothing but misrepresentation. Infy boss Narayana Murthy rang NASDAQ bell from Mysore (via satellite/video).

Sankaracharya,
Thanks for the tip about Tuticorin. SInce one of my family member is a native of Tuticorin, I have asked that Individual's relatives to buy me land in Tuticorin (esp. near the port). Since Tsunami came, land around Tuticorin's costal belt has gone down a bit. I am also planning to buy barren land around that area in the hope of building a Hospital / Hotel/ Engg. College in about 20 years time from now.
I am Skeptical of investing in Chennai since i have no relatives there.

Thanks TK . I will look into the MF you have mentioned . When in India last I had shortlisted a few funds - Fidelity / Reliance ....Templeton and some others .Will have to do the excercise again.
To those who are aware - Do funds for NRIs have different returns than funds for Indian public ? This is wrt the MFs in the Indian market currently .Why I am asking this is bcoz I ahve been informed that there are certain funds which expect investment from NRO / E accounts .....
