How are SOYO monitors. I saw these at Walmart. Seems to be good priced. $139 for 17" and $159 for 19"
Also, what does this mean and which one is better?

1280X1024 Hz
1440X900 Hz

just see other features....like....Built in Tuner....u can use it as a TV.
You can opt any resolutions....there is hardly any difference...

I bought soyo lcd monitor on boxing day sale 2006. Recently I shifted the monitor from one place to an another place . Now it is not working. Though it is still under waranty, I have to ship the monitor and pay the postage around 40 bucks plus 15 bucks for the shipping and handling. Now I am thinking if that monitor is worth the cost.

humm never heard about 'em. but the resolution u mentiond here r 2 different aspects. like 1440X900 is widescreen aspect but other one 1280X1024 is normal flat panel screen.

Yep, in widescreen u gain horizontal space and lose vertical space compared to a normal screen. (think one as square and other a rectangle. Widescreens are good for watching movies, playing games and normal screen is good for almost all other purposes, as u get more vertical height.
Look into what type of panel, response time, contrast ratio and viewing angles for a lcd.
Response time: get a monitor with resp time of 2 to 8. The lower the digit, the faster it is and is best for playing games, as it reduces the ghosting effect. (NOte: DEll uses a slightly different mthod, a dell lcd with Resp time of 16ms is equivalent to say 5 or 8 ms industry norm.
Viewing angle: greater the best. Otherwise u will have to sit directly in front of the lcd to get the picture.
Contrast ratio: higher the better
Panel: TN panel is cheapest.

Personally, I would never buy a no-name brand.
Dell.ca has some of the best lcd's now, with 3 year warranty and look for a 20 inch on sale for around 200 bucks. Best value for money.

One more thing to look out for is the connection. If ur pc had dvi output only and the monitor comes with analogue (VGA) output or viceversa, then u will need an adapter. If u dont have one (ie, no adapter came with monitor or video card), thats an extra expense.
ACER makes cheap monitors, not much difference with some no-name brands. You get what u pay or sometimes less with Acer. Their customer service can be horrible at times too..
DELL, VIEWSONIC, SAMSUNG are some brands u really need to look into. WHen on sale, u get these brands for "almost" the regular price of these no-name brands, but the premium u pay always worth it.
To get an idea about prices, look into the hotdeals sections of ncix.com or directcanada.com.
Also go to any local small computer stores and check their prices too..sometimes they have really good deals.
