Apparently it took 5 good years for this to breakdown and she could get a replacement with no questions asked . Not that I find this ethically right but definitely it was worth mentioning .

Update .
I tried the Panasonic and the T-Fal.
As much as I was bending towards the Panasonic 1600W , it makes less steam , even lesser than my 10 year old 1200W Sunbeam , leaving un ironed wrinkles
Panasonic seems to be having some design issues (or maybe the one I tried was faulty ) but for me its a NO GO ...
T-Fal works great. For me the obvious choice !!!

3 Pages bhar diye - sirf eik (1) steam iron ke liye.
Kamaal hey, yaar.
I bought the Toastmaster one for about $25-30 from Walmart right after I moved to Canada. Even after 10 years, it's still going pretty strong. I fill it with Water before each use, and viola! I get the perfect wrinkled free clothes.

Sir same here .
I also brought a Sunbeam from Walamrt in 06 and it has not died yet .
I don't want to use the same for another 10 years if a better one exists ..
And it does as I experienced after using the T-Fal..
Try the T-Fal , you may switch too

With North American highly consumerist lifestyle, our wives buy things that are not really needed right away. So, she already bought a spare one a few months ago (the usual - Sasti lagi hui thi), just in case
Not happy!
Final Update ...
I have settled for this one ....T-FAL FV4476 1700 W.
T-Fal is a good brand and wattage should be > 1500W as pointed out by GKT
Unlike my sunbeam , this irons the wrinkles out the first time it is swept over the cloth

Available @ CT for $50/- from time to time.
