I have HP Computer bought in 2002 and it came with those big huge monitor. I believe these are called CRT. I want to change the monitor with LCD monitor. My computer is fine, so thinking of saving space on my desk.
I saw ACER AL 1916 WAB at COSTCO. 178.99 for 19" wide. 700:1 Contrast, 5ms response time, three year warranty.
If ur pc had dvi output only and the monitor comes with analogue (VGA) output or viceversa, then u will need an adapter. If u dont have one (ie, no adapter came with monitor or video card), thats an extra expense.
- What is DVI or Analog? May be not familar with termonologies.
Specs for ur Acer:
===============================
Type: LCD Monitor
Screen Size: 19 inches
Pixel Pitch: 0.294 mm
PC Interfaces: Analog VGA <<------ "NO DVI"
Rated Maximum Viewing Angle: Horizontal: 140 degrees
Rated Maximum Viewing Angle: Vertical : 140 degrees
Brightness (Max): 250 cd/m^2
===============================
Pros:
Affordable. Good color quality. Thin bezel.
Cons:
Analog only. Limited adjustability. Average grayscale performance. Slow pixel-response time.
================================
Since u r using a CRT now, ur pc has VGA..thats where the crt cable is currently connected to pc. So u r safe there.
Costco has good return policy, so if something happens to the monitor in a year, u can safely return it.
The viewing angle is a bit low, but since u r buying from costco, u can try it out and if u doesnt feel like keeping it, just return it.
Hope this helps

i think you know what those acronym means. DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and VGA (Video Graphics Array) right????
now i won't go into deep explanation but in layman's word DVI is much much better than VGA..why? CRT monitors are analog whereas LCD panels are digital. Since computers render everything digitally a conversion is needed for analog devices. As with almost any conversion, there's some loss in image quality. DVI is digital and any LCD monitor that supports DVI will have a sharper, clearer image. sure you won't notice much of difference in two if you are normal user but if you are hardcore gamer you will notice the difference.
Thanks for all replies.
