Loser,
You guys have not understood India yet.
India shining does not mean that all the 1 billion population of India had made it big in the stock market and are spewing out rupees to gain luxury.
In 1983 when I went to India, I found that around 90% of the population that I saw lived hand to mouth . of course many of these guys had a house but it was not worth much. They mostly lived hand to mouth, meaning that they would not visit any expensive hotels, use luxuries of the day etc.. Water bottles, Cellphones, luxuary cars etc.. were not all at heard until then.
This trend continued until atleast 2002 when I left India for Canada.
I visited India in Jan 2006 and things had changed mostly. Cell phones were plenty, luxuary cars abunded and the price of real estate was creeping up.
From that day until today, there has been a meteroic increase. Salaries have gone up by 500% to 1000 %. Real estate prices by 1000 % and the stock market is doing very very well. Atleast 20-30 % of the population have been benefited by it (Middle class). The rest of them (esp. the poorest 20-30%) are still the same. They still live the life that they used to live in the 70's or the 80's. Even if i return to India today, I would still be hesitant to shell put Rs.80 for a meal whereas a entry level graduate would easily be able to shell it out. The cheapest meal that I took in 1994 was Rs.11 at Minuyandi vilas (the place where labourers/Masons would eat in TN). I am guessing that that would be around Rs.30 or so now.

Sidenote : Beggers who were happy to receive 10 paise until 1996 , used to return it back to us if we gave the same 10 paise in 2000. Around 2000 25 paise was the min. and in 2006 it was Rs. 1. Donot know how much is the min. these days. I once used to help a lot of beggers in the 1990's but since they generally donot accept less then Rs. 1 , I stopped giving it to them since (being in Canada) even Rs. 1 is very valuable to me.
