Although I appreciate religious sentiments, to me, this is bordering on the ridiculous. A law is a law is a law. What's next for exceptions? Someone can't wear a seatbelt in a car because of some religious issue?

Just for the record..I am a "sikh".
I think as you do that a law is a law is a law. I think the helmet issue is just a means for the group to push their own political agenda. First of all, the concern about Turban safety is not the unravelling of the turban ..but if you get hit..the turban is not going to protect someone's head from injury.
Secondly - It is absolutely NOT true that a sikh has to wear the big turban all the time. Some men tie patkas..which is flatter against the head AND a person could effectively wear a helmet if they wanted to.
I think its all political and a group of people just wanting to be given special treatment...I am not impressed by the provinces that have allowed this..again due to political reasons..votes...large sikh communities in these provinces..

The defendant's counsel has in fact quoted this from a different angle arguing that though seat belts are compulsory but there are exceptions when the law excuses people who cant wear them for physical reasons ...

Are you there?
British Columbia and Manitoba already have exemptions for Sikh... so changes of Ontario giving a different ruling are next to nothing.
i'm a sikh and i ride a bike as well. i use helmet bco'z i know if i crash on speed we ride bike my turban will not save me. but guess some ppl don't understand that.
