No self-aggrandizements/self-promotions/advertising intended. Should anyone think so, please have the link removed.
It was a stupid thing for her to do .... but what i am surprised is the reaction from the premier. I had a similar incident on our shop floor .... two worker had a fight & one of them threatened to kill the other one. The second worker called in the police and they came ..... investigated ... then spoke to both of them & that was it.
Dont know why so much action is being taken now. You have to remember also what is important in this case is the time line. The email was sent to him on Sept. 30 ....... he did OR his security staff did not react till Nov. 30 to respond ...WHY ...... The elections were on & the premier did not want a non issue to upset his election campaign . Now he can act tough and show he is protecting his staff.
By the way he has set a precedent .... if anyone tell you that he will kill you .... you have a right to demand his arrest ....... what morons!!!!!!
Read the Premier's response-

I think this is a clear case of being misunderstood. Though not a very savoury expression, "or I'll kill you" is used very loosely in India, even in the workplace. There is no malice intended. It's just a cultural thing.
However, I will concede that after being here so many years, Neelam Vir should have realized it is not done in Canada, and especially to an aide of Ontario's premier.
Such an expression, if directed at an aide of a government official in India, would not go down very well either, but would be excused as a "cultural thing" or aberration if there was no venom in the tone.

Totally agree, boss. 'I'll kill you' is an expression used at times between friends and colleagues at work but not to unknown people.
An email like hers sent to a senior government official in India, threatening to kill an aide of his would also create waves.
I guess someone already has said enough, but I couldn't resist the temptation to say what I feel........... at the risk of being \"scolded\" (a Canadian expression the Toronto Star loves to use), I would like to say thus:
It's clearly not, repeat, not a issue of cultural (mis)understanding. It's nothing but a ill conceived plan to get into the headlines, and achieve (cheap) publicity.......This lady thought that this was India, where you get into the news for the wrong reasons, and before you know, political parties vie with each other to give you a seat in the assembly or the parliament......One such example was phoolan Devi (May the lord rest her soul!)
It's simply not brain surgery, not it is the cliched \"rocket science\". You can't just utter death threats (whether you mean it or not)...... and get away with it.... Why try doing this in India, where there is a no \"cultural mis understanding..... do you think
it will go unnoticed or just swept under the carpet? Let's face it, we live in very dangerous times, you just can't take death threats lightly........... we have had instances of school kids playing a hoax, sending talcum powder to teachers, claiming that to be anthrax............. There are cases of people who got into trouble because they \"looked like terrorists\" or spoke \" about a plan\"...........
If that is the truth of the world we live in, why take a chance............ Behenji, this is not India.............JAISA KARO, WAISA BHARO! Maybe this will be an eye-opener for
those who are planning such tricks to get cheap publicity........... and what pains me more than anything is that this came a person who did her Ph.D.
What you said below seem to be more appropriate.
It is a matter showing what her influence is to her circle and a sense of hastiness to build up the same. It isn't really uncommon I come across people who even happened to be some of our friends through neighborhood or kid's school profess their familiarity with MP..MPP.. .. Some call for the Ministers and some even go to further extent.
