How bizarre is this, I don't know whether to feel sorry for this lady or cringe. She's a PHD from India who sent a Gits gulab jamun mix to the premier and threatened to "kill" the assistant if she didn't deliver it.
I can understand the cultural mix-up here, but c'mon! There's a good dose of stupidity and definitely some mental issues here...
Its news to me that in India, you could tell someone in your family "Go get milk or I'll kill you!" and that its normal conversation.

I do feel sorry for her in a way and hope she gets off without this being a bigger issue. But this should be a case study to be presented to all immigrants on what not to do once you land in Canada.

Are you there?
I think she was trying to get into the political circles. She was smart but she started it on wrong foot before understanding how it works in Canada.
A person who is ( to me) PhD in science is quite clued-up and logical to call herself naive. Sending gifts is a part of our culture but threatening like this...which jungle does she belong to to use such words with Premier or for that matter with anyone!!!!
She is a very smart lady, she wanted some fame, her picture is on the main page of the Star.

Even here, you hear people saying "I'll Kill You" just like the way back in India between two friends ... two known person. Forget in writing, but you don't say this to 'unknown'. Try this on some streets of Toronto or Mumbai - you'll get your share.
I feel sorry for her. First we as immigrant have to settle in job etc and then face this communication problem and cultural differences. I am wondering whether Premier ate those gulab jamun or not ?
