Here is one way that employer tracks employees' network movements. One of the production floor supervisor was fired due to incompetence/performance/suspicious behaviour/etc. He threatened to sue. To confirm the suspicion the employer had, the employer decided to dig through the computer that he was using while employed. They went through all his emails, internet browses, etc and found the dude was heavily surfing porn at work. The employer notifed the fired ex-employee and his attorney of the findings. The guy backed off from his threat.

So, the employer may not be tracking you live, but if necessary, they can go back into the archives and dig up dirt. Remember, me typing now from work on CD is technically violation of company electronic communication policy, although, more weight is given to my performance and reasonable allowance is made for internet browsing during work hours.

Around 3 months back my boss installed a spy system which monitors our e-mail and internet access. Before doing so he warned us about it (But I am not sure if such a thing exists or if it is possible or if it is legal in Ontario). Last month, he called me aside and told me that I was mostly on the internet and that he has proof of it and told me to concentrate on my work. The next day I immediately asked him for my vaction and took my vacation (which he had denied me for 4 or 5 years).
So my question to Dimple would be :
Would you belive what my employer told me?
I still browse CD, News , My g-mail, Orkut etc.. What I have stopped is using Youtube

Peace out.

As per my understanding and experience, many companies do not have any software that records all the activities of the employees. One of the reasons can be company don’t want to spend any money on licensing of such software and time to analyze reports . No need to mention reputed companies are not interested in freeware or cheap solution. Sometimes company decides to go with licensed software (sometime a freeware) if network team observes high bandwidth usage during office hours.

If they install such software their first goal is to identify high bandwidth users like downloading movies, songs, games etc. (I have a friend who writes automated scripts to download movies during night so that he can watch it in daytime!).

They only check detailed time spent on internet if they notice you are not working up to the mark and not meeting project deadlines. At that time they can record internet activity as well as phones if they wish. (I have seen an employee get fired on the proof of phone recording). Also there is software available which logs all the jobs printer prints means who prints what!!. So if someone thinks this kind of software are enabled then stick to company policy and stop abusing company resources.

This is a general observation. There might be some companies which always logs what employee does.

Hello all,
I am not an expert in this but as far as my knowledge goes, there are many s/w available to monitor Employee activity and that includes their current screen. This means that your boss can see what is on your screen without actually coming down to your seat!!!
Netmonitor,Keylogger, eye spy pro, KGB employee montor to name a few.
So if your performance is fluctuating, they can catch you with all details about wher have you been on internet or who have you called and how many times etc . BIG Boss is watching!
Some companies have rationed time for personal use of resources and/or separate designated areas where employees can use computers/phones etc for personal use. If you stick to this, you save yourself lot of unnecessary trouble!
P.S :-just to give a hands on..go to the Chrcha main page and scroll down to end of page and click on Active Users and you can see what all 'active/ logged in' users are currently doing on the CD website.

Take Care

have u stored any personal stuff in u r PC? if so delete it. the system admin can log on to u r PC from any remote location and check each and every files in u r PC. he can even check u r office mails. if u have opened any attachments from hotmail a copy of it is stored in u r temp directory
the only remedy for u r worries is no to use the office PC of any personal use.

I've been working since 1.5 years and since day one, all my co-workers(even from other teams) have been spying on me. In the beginning, I thought, since I'm new, its obvious. But off late, its becoming too irritating. They even come searching for me in the washroom and pantry. I used to check my personal emails from office but now I've stopped, other than that I just do my work. I spoke with one of the co-workers and he is said "yes, we are spying and that some other co-worker is doing a research on me.". He told me that he saw me using the Windows Messenger and hence. I've never used WM and dont know from where he got this idea. Previously another co-worker from our team was also spied on and he was moved to a different team. He was actually demoted. He was asked to not communicate with any of us. Does this situation sound familiar to anybody ?
