Hi I have been in Canada from last 1 year..I have 6 months exp. in CAnadian company as an Administrative Assistant(and in India 5 yrs of exp in the same field) ...As I went to my backhome I have to LEave my last job ...Now what??? where to start?? I am applying in agencies but I feel nothing works....PLs guide me what to do???
1) Is your resume up to date with all your current experience?
2) how long were you gone back home for? If you were gone for a long period, then you will have to justify/explain this gap on your resume to employers in interviews. Did you work while you were back home or do any activities related to administration? Any volunteer work etc?
3) Get a recruiter to give you an opinion regarding your experience and your resume and get them to offer suggestions.
4) In the future, I would recommend not quitting a job becuase you wish to visit home. Career wise thats suicide. This shows employers that you are not reliable. Even as an administrative assistant, you are required to demonstrate professionalism and ability to be dedicated to your job. If you had to go back as an emergency, then you can explain that easily during a job interview.
5) Please ensure you have at least 3 good references - 2 from your most recent job. If your previous employer will not give you a good refernce, get one from a colleague but do NOT use ur previous boss if they will be less than complimentary towards you. a Bad reference is NOT better than no reference.
6) Assess your skills - are ur computer skills and awareness of the labour market up to date.

Try the temp agencies... in Admin Asst roles, you should be able to find temp placements - 1-6 months and some of them can get converted to perm ones later.
yeah that what I am doing.....I consulted diff. agencies...lets see what happen....
but my question is still there......In canada agencies are only way to get job?????
