I am not a huge fan of Russell Peters. He is funny when he is doing his stand-up routine, but he crosses the line when he is being interviewed.
On Jay Leno, he remarked about how dirty India smelt as soon as he got off the plane. In this interview with Pranav Roy, he also makes fun of India - Bollywood movies in front of Indian audiences. Not all Bollywood movies are "timepass"

I like the self deprecatory humour - the way Americans make fun of themselves in Simpsons or Family Guy, but at same time they make sure they maintain the dignity of their country.
But this idiot does not know where to draw the line
Just my opinion
Meghal,
I agree with you. He does cross he line many a times and has in many situations put down India. He should instead be thankful of a heritage that gives him all his material but alas....!hmmmm
I liked the Rusell Peters when Rusell Peters first came out.
And then he ran out of material. His follow-up acts were horrendous. I watched the video of his live act in NY and the audience were actually gasping in disbelief at some his material such as the ones where he made fun of cripples...that entire show did not even bring a smile on my face.
With regards to his comments about India, not sure if you know but stand up comedy culture does give the show-men a free pass. The boundaries are very very very thin.
Do you follow stand-up acts like those of Bill Maher, or even mainstream shows like The Daily Show by Jon Stewart? Late George Carlin? The things they say and get away with...only comedians can say it.

One thing you must give to Russell Peters .... he puts everyone down white, black, red , chinese, indian!!!!!...... as for his Indian jokes ... listen to his interview where he touches on it ... and has an "interesting" take on criticism from "Indians" ......

My take .... I really dont find it offensive !!!!!!!
With all due respect, after having watched the interview with Prannoy Roy just now, in my humble opinion that was funny and not the least bit distasteful.
Edit: I like this guy now-a-days...Papa CJ.... here's a video of his: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZV81JCAMas
