Remember the famous quote by Rattan Tata couple of years ago? “You are stupid if you are not here”, he said while addressing largest investment summit of Indian history at that time in Ahmedabad. Well some might have considered this as his version of appreciation to Narendra Modi for allocating the land for his visionary Tata Nano project. And for some of us it was reflecting the truth from every Indian entrepreneur’s heart.

If we, the Canadian Desis, were stupid in year 2007 by not being in Gujarat, are we more stupid now? Of course Rattan Tata meant to say “You are stupid if you are not investing in Gujarat”, but for a common people like us, what really matters is quality of life and income potential. More industries mean more income. What about the quality of life?

Now we are in 2010. Close to 2020. Another decade is ahead of us with more and more promising plans and projects from Gujarat Government. 2020 is far. Mr. Modi can see it. He can see even beyond. For a common folks like us, let us focus on what is happening in Gujarat for this year.

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor

During phase one of this ambitious project, of which 38% area belongs to Gujarat, there are several new highways, industrial areas, special economic zones, special investment regions and new airports are starting in Gujarat. The DMIC is covering 62 percent of Gujarat’s area. The project goals are overwhelming and if achieved is going to change India’s face completely. Double employment potential in five years, Triple industrial output in five years, and Quadruple exports from the region in five years.

The celebration of Swarnim Gujarat – Golden Jubilee Celebration of Gujarat State

The news around Mr. Bachchan covered this in pieces, but Gujarat has grand celebration plans for its golden jubilee — undoubtedly the biggest event of the year in the state. It is not just celebration but each taluka is given a target achieve certain goals as a part of this celebration

Dholera Special Investment Region

Special investment regions are not just industrial area, rather they are a whole new concept of development. An entire region to be setup by a sponsoring country or group and must comply to the basic infrastructure guidelines setup by Gujarat Government. The minimum area for setting up an SIR is 400 sqkms. This one is to be built by Japanese. And is going to be India’s first water front city.

As a part of this project following things are planned:

Amdavad- Vataman- Pipli- Dholera- Bhavnagar Six Lane Access Controlled Highway (180km, Now extended to Pipavav)

The tenders are already published.

Regional Metro rail system between Gandhinagar- Amdavad- Dholera (120km)

International Airport at Dholera

It has got an in-principle technical and environment clearance and final clearance is likely to be given soon. The government has already notified land for this Rs2,500 crore new international airport project and ground work on it will actually begin this year.

Gujarat is changing the laws regarding land administrative. The age old Bombay land revenue code with the new Gujarat Land Administrative Act to abolish the cumbersome system of non-agriculture (NA) certification along with replacing the 130-year-old code.
Gujarat also becoming the fourth Government in the world to setup Varsity on climate change. It also brings new new TP rules & regulations.

The Ahmedabad BRTS, which is already in operation now.

Kankaria, Ahmedabad’s most beautiful place, just got more stuff.

And the Sabarmati Riverfront Development is going on rapidly and going to change the Amadavadi’s experience and expectations from city completely.

So, guys do you still think we are stupid? If you do, don’t wait. The land price is not out of reach yet.

RIL plans to acquire Canadian co for $2bn
TNN, 6 February 2010, 02:39am ISTText Size:|
MUMBAI: Two months after it made an offer to acquire a controlling stake in the bankrupt LyondellBasell, Indian energy major Reliance Industries
(RIL) is now said to be eyeing privately-held Canadian firm, Value Creations.

According to media reports, RIL has submitted an expression of interest of $2 billion for Value Creations.

‘‘RIL is reviewing a number of global opportunities for growth in its core business. The difficult operating environment of the past year has made available several interesting opportunities, where an investment by a strategic operator of industrial assets can add substantial value,'' an RIL spokesperson told TOI.

The spokesperson said the review is ongoing and there can be no ‘‘assurance that any approach will be made with respect to the opportunities under review or that any such approach will result in a transaction''.

Alberta-based Value Creations is a private company established in 1998, and deals in oil sands resources. It is part of the Value Creation Group of Companies, which is focused on transforming the oil sands industry by applying its proprietary technology to resource development and to bitumen upgrading. The company's promoters, according to agency reports, are looking to raise funds to settle its dues with lenders.

RIL is in the midst of raising funds for LyondellBasell. The deal, which could create an energy and chemicals conglomerate with revenues to the tune of $80 billion, could cost RIL around $13.5 billion.

By selling its treasury stocks to institutional investors in a series of block deals over the last few months under the Petroleum Trust, RIL has raised over Rs 9,000 crore. The company has the potential of raising another Rs 13,000 crore by selling the readily available treasury shares, which would not dilute the company's equity. The amount raised has bolstered RIL's war chest for future acquisitions too, depending on opportunities in the global petrochemical arena.

Why do we jump with joy if the Tatas, the Birlas or Ambanis acquire a company in North America or Europe? Honestly, with business going global, and trade barriers becoming less each day, what is the big deal?

Does a M & A of this kind mean the common man's plight has improved? Do these companies spend a fraction of their wealth on improving the social order in India?

Now for heaven's sake, don't give me a lesson in Capitalism and how money breeds more money and that there is no need for charity - I know that.

We just don't have to get excited if Tata's buy Tetley or Jaguar or Anil Ambani buys MGM. None of that makes any difference to the "aam aadmi" in India or to us- except for a rush of adrenalin.

What should concern us is mundane issues like the price of gasoline, the long wait for health-care, the long wait for visas for immigration. But no! - we are Indians, right? ............ we like to live in a world that does not concern us, to give us the "high" that day to day life can not,

Why wouldn't the state progress when they have such a positive CM who has to guts and magnanimity to praise where praise is due, in place of constant criticism.

Thank God! whe have some people in the Kichidi party who understand the real situation in India.

Modi praises PM, Chidambaram over handling of security
February 07, 2010 19:07 IST

CommentPrime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram received wholesome praise from an unexpected quarter over the Centre's handling of security issues. And it was from none other than Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who usually does not miss an opportunity to go hammer and tongs at the Centre with the latest occasion being his attack over the price rise issue on Saturday.

At the conference of chief ministers on internal security, Modi praised Singh and Chidambaram for the Centre's swift and positive action and greater cooperation with his state in dealing with security concerns. Modi said during Manmohan Singh's regime the opposition-ruled states did not face any discrimination in the matter of internal security. He said due to the hostile attitude of "our neighbouring country, security is an important issue which needs to be taken seriously."

Modi also complimented Chidambaram and Home Secretary G K Pillai for their approach in tackling terror. "The response of the home minister and home secretary is swift and positive whenever there is a demand from a state," Modi told reporters on the sidelines of the conference.

The Centre came in for praise from Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh too. Singh said his state has been geting all help from the Central government in dealing with the Maoists problem. He said now there were greater cooperation between the state and the Centre in all security matters

Vandematram,

Please don't post irrelevant stuff in this thread. The main topic is development happening in Gujarat and you are bringing other stuff into the thread. You can start another thread if need to.

Thanks.

Blue peafowl: You don't seem to have understood what I wrote: Besides stop trying to be a censor: I have right to free speech, and if you can't understand my logic, there is nothing I can do about it.

FYI, companies like Tetley, MGM, and Jaguar are NOT based in India. That said, how does that bring local employment in India? Perhaps you should do some homework (or should I say "google";) before trying your hand at one-upmanship.
