In backyard it is no-no except it is very big. I am told driveways are fine provided if there is no overhead wires or trees . I haven't verified with the city as they will say no. I am doing it on my driveways since last many years.

At present I am heading towards Vaishnaodevi temple Oakville for fireworks. They had a designated spot for fireworks. As long as laws concern you are not allowed to do fireworks in other public places but you can do it in you driveways unless your neighbour have any objection.
However, in Brampton generally people enjoy fireworks in streets as last year we were there and in streets many people did it.

I don't know about the fireproof houses. But sure that the
phatake of Canada are enough fireproof.
