I am the one who started this thread and I hope you are not of those rednecks, bigoted person from Gujarat who hates Muslim only because of their religion. You have ABSOLUTELY no right to criticize INDIAN citizens, because they belong to certain faith. Muslim are Indian citizens and they voted in this election and if one of their organization abroad said they support Sonia, and then it’s should be fine with us. Instead of talking about issues and dilemma that our motherland faces, some people start bringing the religion in to politics. Those people are nothing but ignominy and disgrace to India!

I do not have anything against Sonia becoming the PM (especially since in my world I would do away with borders). However in the interest of India as a country, its good that she made way for Manmohan Singh...less divisive. Love it that a Sikh and a Muslim are leaders of the country.

BJP leaders decision to oppose Congress President Sonia Gandhi becoming India's Prime Minister has been condemned as "outrageous and racist" by British Indian Muslims.
"BJP's outrageous and racist opposition of Sonia Gandhi as India's Prime Minister has shown to the world the ugly face of Hindutva forces," Council of Indian Muslims, UK, Munaf Zeena said on Tuesday night.
"This is really bizarre that someone as eminent as Ms Gandhi who holds an Indian passport, is a bona fide citizen of India, has been serving in the Indian parliament, has contested and campaigned in elections but the moment her party wins and her supporters decide to nominate her to be the next Prime Minister of the country a bunch of fanatics declare her to be a second class citizen," Zeena said.
He said, "Ms Gandhi's foreign-origin is just a pretext. As a matter of fact this is her Catholic background because of which the fascists of Sangh Parivar are opposing her. They can not tolerate a non-Brahmin as Prime Minister and they will continue to create problems for Manmohan Singh as well."
Zeena praised Sonia's decision to withdraw her name in the larger interest and unity of the country as "magnanimous and an example of very high morals."
"The Sangh Parivar is happy to see its agents do businesses in foreign lands, settle there and occupy high posts. They saw nothing wrong in receiving money from their agents in the UK, Middle East and the US for building the so-called Ram temple in Ayodhya and for the massacre of Muslims.
"They are happy to establish the branches of RSS and the BJP in other countries but feel no repugnance in using someone's place of birth as her biggest demerit. The world should not ignore this jingoism and condemn it," Zeena said.

I have absolutely no prejudices against anyone based on their religion, I happen to think that people are a lot more than the religion they represent. I do not attach enough significance to religion anyways to have that pattern of thought, however that's for another time and another thread.
That does not mean though I do not respect my religion and I will oppose any prejudices against it with as much vehemence. If all that an organisation saw in BJP was the "ugly face of Hindutva forces", I have every right to take exception to that because its simply not true. Show me a statment from this council that critisized this arrogantly the destruction of the Buddha statues by the Taliban in Afghanistan and I'll take my words back. I will consider them true Indians then, till then they're hypocrites as far as I am concerned.
I find it ironical when people who critisize religious bigotry reek themselves of it and that was my point, maybe you'll understand in due time.
Let me again make my stand crystal clear. I hate all hypocrites, whether they be white, brown, green or blue. It fills me with pride too when I see a Muslim president (who I consider a true Indian) and a Sikh prime-minister at the helm of the country. I never did like the religion card that the BJP's factions played, but I do think that the party as a whole represented much more and India as a country did quite ok under them.
My anger was directed at and only at the utter arrogance and hypocrisy of the statements I read in the Hindustan times article.

BL... that stuff abt Hammering the Buddha statues.. it brought back memories from 3 years ago. I used to post on a DVD forum site (www.zulm.net). No marks for guessing, run by a Brit of Pakistani descent. A bunch of Taliban lovers were present there (mind you this was before Sept. 11, 2001). They were giving all sorts of excuses (aka defending the Taleban).. Then 9/11 happened and wonder of wonders !.. everyone vanished.
The Indian press is by and large servile. Hindustantimes is one of those pseudo-secularists.. I largely ignore them. Indian express is kinda mixed. TOI Is pro-BJP... The Hindu is a paper the left parties love to quote. So you take your pick.
I do have a questions though.. Last night I posted a response on another thread. It got deleted ! Any reason why ? I had to repeat the stuff today !

Very much a BJP supporter, and havent yet given up my membership with the ABVP ( the student wing of the BJP).. Yet I like Manmohan Singh as our PM.. I only wish if he had a majority..
