Since last couple of months, I'd been witnessing a steady RIM bashing in the media. The saints / saviors of the stock market are already recommending to dump the RIM stock.

I had been a user of RIM for years and have observed most of the businesses have been using Blackberrys to quite an extent (including white house). I think Apple and Google want to penetrate the IM business but seriously lack the technology hence hitting the backdoor with Financial ANALysts of walstreet.

I wish the Govt. takes it serious and help RIM....

Both are designed to serve different brand of customers.. Still the Apple (I don't rule out that their phones are very flashy and attractive with their features) comes no way close to BB when it comes to business...

RIMM is almost on the dying block.. I personally presume it will get taken over..
This company has acted reactively, whereas AAPL has been proactive in their approach.. AAPL is slowly getting into RIMM's domain.

But its too late to short the stock..

The question is not for now...the question is for future and that's where apple has an edge with their products. Its not only the phones, their other products are also making a niche in the mkt, Rimm lacks innovation (I mean currently the mkt sees it in this way), so till the time they introduce something really good, the current sales won't sustain the co. Mkt is reacting to their negative future and lack of products.

Not because to hide any poor performance. IT is already showcased much out of proportion.

A few point to note on the positive side

1. RIM actually made profit in last quarter. It is less than expected

2. Revenue actually increased. It is less than expected.

3. RIM gave a lot back to the community. Jobs, Careers, Co Ops for students, New housing sub divisions almost entirely bought by RIM employees , grants etc etc

4. RIM is the only 100 % Canadian company to be known and used internationally

5. RIM also carries Canadian pride. we want it to remain successful

Areas where RIM was complacent and led to poor performance

1. There was no competitive product to TOUCH PHONE and TABLETS. What came were too little too late

2. RIM was resting on the past success. Any company has to continiously improve to remain in market place. ( BTW --- that applies to us as well. We need to keep ourselves updated else we will be overthrown by a new Geek in the job market)

3. Did not pro actively pursue and mitigate issues with Indian, Saudi govts. which are huge markets .

Come back to the forefront RIM.....

Nortel met some of the criteria u had mentioned and it went belly up..

The telecom business is changing so rapidly that there is no room for laggards both Rim and Nokia have become laggards in the handset market..

Rim did well creating the BES service for having emails forwarded to devices.. That was why corporates liked it..

This edge has already been matched by Google and apple, in addition Google is innovating in the handset OS and new value added services market where as apple is innovating in the device market.

Rim devices look out dated in comparison to the kind of touch devices apple has launched.. Most business have started giving iphones instead of RIM devices..

Canadian government should keep its nose out of the private sector , what is happening is not a media creation.. but market driven

You mean only Canadian tech. company.
There are many, many Canadian companies in other sectors that can give other large international companies a run for its money.
Also, do you know for sure how much of RIMM is actually Canadian owned?
I'm sure it is less than 100%, and possibly much less.
It is traded on both the Canadian and US exchanges so obviously some of the ownership is non Canadian.
As for how much exactly, we'll either need to dig through analyst reports and/or speak with Investors Relations.
Don't be surprised if substantial holdings are non Canadian.

I'm not sure about the patroitism part.
We had that last year when the Canadian govt. blocked the takeover of Potash Corp. by BHP.
However, the fact was that a substantial ownership of Potash is non Canadian already.

These days ownership lines are so blurred that hardly any public corporation can be claimed exclusively by a country.
