Yep, you are wrong about "H1 quota by country."

"H1 quota full" means that new H1 visa are not being issued anymore. I believe the new quota kicks in Sept/Oct (not sure exact month) and new H1 are issued as long as the total allowable quota is not exhausted. The quota doesn't include H1 renewals and transfers.

Do a google on H1 and you will find lots of info.

"H1 quota full" meaing what? I thought H1 quota was by country, or am I wrong? Don't they have some specific numbers for India and similarly for different countries? Do they also have a specific number for Canada? Or is Canada not on the H1 list at all because of the TN thing?

What is required for TN visa? Is it just the appointment letter from the employer or does the letter have to be in a specified format?

Answers anyone please?

fundamental conditions of TN visa is that the immigrant has to demonstrate that he intends to work in the US only on a temporary basis. In other words the TN visa is not renewable indefinitely. What happens if the INS refuses the TN visa after a year or two?

OI accept that officially there is no limit to how many times it can be renewed but it CAN be denied is what I mean to say.
Answers anyone please?

as soon as one applies for a different status, the TN visa becomes invalid. So what is the solution?

Answers anyone please?
And finally....If I have a satisfactory job here in Canada, how much sense does it make to go for a job in the US on a TN visa? Isn't there that uncertainty factor of the TN visa not getting renewed one fine day just because that bloke at the US Immigration for some reason feels like not renewing it?

I will answer question with questions first:

If you have satisfactory job in Canada, why do you want to go to US for job at all?

If you want to work and live in US, then why would you want to stay on TN year-after-year instead of going on H-1 and processing green card?

Do you want to live in US?

Do you want to be based out of Canada, have family in Canada and want to go work in US on your own for short-term?
---
TN visa is good for \"transit workers.\" People who want to work few months out of a year in US while continue to live in Canada remainder of the year and continue to have family based in Canada.

People employed in project-oriented positions, independent contractors, use TN to work at US client sites.

The other use of TN Visa is for people whose US employer can not wait to have them start working without waiting for new H-1 approval...usually urgent project requirements.

Ans - job applied for must be a part of the TN job list . All certificates , etc and employment letter and 50$ fee . There is a list of docs that you need to take . See it on US immigration site

Ans :IF TN is refused , you can try and apply again .but cannot work till it is approved at the Port of entry

More money and better climate. I detest the cold.

Exactly. That's what I would very much like. Only how do I find someone to sponsor me on H1 or for a green card. That's one of the questions I have posted earlier in this very thread. Do you have any pointers please? Do you know of any H1b sponsors and where to find them?

Yes! Very much!

No I do not want to be based in Canada. I would like to move lock stock and barrel to the US, down somewhere south/southwest if possible.
Hmm...so in effect what you are saying is that it is not feasible to work in US on TN visa for an extended period of time. I thought so too, but several posts on this site led me to mistakenly believe that getting citizenship and thus managing a TN visa is the ticket to the US.

wisernow,

Don't focus on TN/H1 issues, instead focus on applying for jobs in US. Interested company will come along to take care of their preferred process whether it is TN or H1.

If a company wants to bring to US on TN, go with it, once you have built rapport with your company personnel, they will be more inclined to switch you over to H1. Relationships help in overcoming initial hesitation but building relationship takes some time.

What field are you in? Do you have your cdn. citizenship yet? If you already applied for citizenhip but waiting on process to finish, you can still try to get job in US on H1.

My suggestion - The H1 quota will open up in Sept/Oct and it is only few months away so start firing away your applications to recruiters and consultants now. Start building your relationships with interested recruiters.

True and I have started doing that too. But the problem is when I look up jobs on monster or wherever, most say in bold letters things like they will not sponsor visas of any types, or local candidates only, citizens only etc etc. I was therefore interested in knowing if someone knew of recruiters who are willing to sponsor H1. Makes things easier.

Risk invloved here. What happens if they are not too keen in retaining my services, especially because of the glut in the IT sector where there are more job seekers than jobs.

Agree.

I am in IT and employed - Oracle Forms/Reports, PL/SQL etc. My Canadian citizenship is due any time now. Just waiting for the oath part. Any leads on recruiters who may be willing to sponsor H1s.
Thanks
