Position Highlights:
Responsible for executing supply base improvement strategy for assigned business units. Improves supplier quality towards zero defect and productivity by prevention and continuously improving suppliers internal processes. Participates in supplier selection process.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Drives supplier quality process improvements to meet business unit quality goals.
2. Measures and drives supplier performance on quality and delivery to meet business unit goals.
3. Drives communication with supplier to improve producibility and manufacturing process capability of mechanical, electrical, electromechanical and electronic commodities.
4. Participates in the engineering change process with suppliers to ensure revision control and manufacturing integrity of goods shipped.
5. Conducts supplier quality system audits.
6. Leads Failure Analysis process by working closely with suppliers, Engineering, Field Engineers, & Operations.
7. Along with Sourcing Managers, leads commodity procurement strategy through strong technical skill and supply base knowledge, for effective utilization of suppliers to achieve UI business goals.
8. Assist supplier First Article submission, tracking, and reporting.
9. Reviews FEMCA, Control Plan, and other supplier manufacturing processes related quality documentation.
10. Supports TopX, MRB, SCAR, CSD, Cost Reduction and other corporate initiatives.
11. Actively participates in new product introductions through the use of quality planning tools like APQP and PPAP.
12. Maintains a constant awareness and understanding of supplier capabilities and customer needs, both internal and external.
13. Provides technical guidance to internal customers in specific area of expertise.
14. Develops new business procedures as necessary.
15. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
BS in a technical (ME, EE, IE, etc.) discipline Broad manufacturing knowledge or experience in a cross-functional manufacturing background. Demonstrated ability to drive results in a team environment. Professional written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of ISO9001 or QS9000TE, effective problem solving, closed loop corrective action, and advanced quality planning tools. ASQC Certification, i.e. CQE, CQA or CRE is desirable. Conducts all supplier business with uncompromising integrity, consistent with UIC guidelines.
Desired Characteristics:
1.Strong ability and willingness to be involved hands-on on the production floor. Must not hesitate to pitch in to repair / rework / inspect parts. In other words, must be a dedicated team player.
2.Ability and drive to pick up the phone and have a professional discussion with suppliers demonstrating ample communication clarity, tact, diplomacy and articulation.
3.Ability to relentlessly pursue root cause to solve problems.
4.Support peers during their absence without the mentality of mine vs. yours.
5.Demonstrate self-accountability and meet prescribed deadlines.
6.Must have the ability to seek middle ground and not be endlessly argumentative or confrontational.
7.Must be willing to understand that not always data and information will be available and must be at ease to try to resolve problems in good faith with minimum amount of information.
8.Ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and work with them by understanding their limitations and strengths.
