Would I be considered a resident or a non-resident for tax purposes?
And if I am a non-resident, do I have to file my taxes in Canada for 2011?

Do you have a Canadian Drivers Licence?
Is your family in Canada?

I would suggest you to consult with your friends and family. Find out who does their taxes. It is always hard to beat personal experience, and you can be guaranteed a truthful opinion.
