My bad, error in writing...the current depreciated value is 35%...with only 97000 kms on it
Anyways, I am not planning to sell this car, my original query was for a 2nd car for the family. I am still in the research mode, will keep you all updated. Thanks everyone for responding.

Very true! My new car which I bought 8 yrs. back and still runs like new, has a depreciated value of only 45% of the original price that I paid to the dealer.![]()
So I will never buy a new car again, for sure!!
If your 8 year old car runs like new and you are happy with it, I am assuming you will continue to keep the vehicle for several more years. Value of the car is relevant only if you intend to sell.
I am driving a 12 year old Chrysler SUV (yes, unlike a Japanese car, American cars must be junk...or so goes the theory....) with 288,000 km. But so far, it's running on original batteries and original headlights (this...I am truly mystified).
I intend to keep the vehicle until the clunker self-destructs, my son grows up to be a proud young driver owner of a hand-me down, or I decide on a charitable donation far down the road. By that time, value of the car means nothing to me as I have gotten enough out of it.
Anyway, I am surprised you still have 45% value on your car

Depreciation of vehicle comes to play only if you change your car often. Else estimate your monthly affordability and go for the car of your liking, prefer new if falls within the monthly budget. ( subtract average maintenance cost if you are buying new ).
Any idea how is Santa FE as used SUV ?

IMO, stay away from Korean cars...both new & used! I know people who had big time problems with Korean cars; the only thing that saved them from breaking the bank is because both the vehicles were within the warranty period.
For a Toyota/Honda, they normally run pretty well without any major issues till 2500000 k on an average. For e.g. buying a Toyota 4Runner/Highlander with 1300000/140000 k makes more "money sense" since they have already taken the major depreciation hit as opposed to buying a new, and then paying a higher insurance premium for a full coverage.
Any idea on Used Hybrid Toyota vehicles and what is the cost to fix the hybrid battery if something goes wrong?

I once heard on an Auto TV show where some auto experts were discussing reliable & efficient economic cars and I remember what one of the experts said about Hyundai ...
' You just can't go wrong with a Hyundai ' ...
Hyundai has come a long way and now compares to Toyota in terms of sales .... I guess they must have maintained some quality control to achieve this ... I have driven the Elantra & Sonata and must say was impressed .
