Hello,
I have a 3 year old daughter currently staying in India with my in-laws. I have health problem so I left her with them and now her canadian passport will expire in 5 months. She was born in canada. I can't go to India right now and I can't bring her here right now. can you please tell me how can I renew her passport in india? Can my father-in-law renew her passport? She has PIO card. Is it ok if the passport expires because I can go to India in September 2007. Can I renew at that time? Will the embassy people ask me why you didn't renew her passport right away when it's nearing expiration time? Please I am so confused. Please help me.
Thank you so much,
A mom
Why is it so confusing? As a Canadian citizen your daughter is eligible to get an expiring passport replaced in India. Refer to this link -
http://geo.international.gc.ca/asia/new-delhi/site/pass-en.asp
However, the passport should be still valid at the time of application so you should not wait until Sep'07, to avoid complications.
Hi,
Thank you for your reply. Can I fill the application and sign it and send to my father-in-law? Can they mail the application or do they have to go in person and do they have to take my son also? Sorry I am asking lot of questions.
Thank you

Are you there?
Sorry for my typo. It's my daughter. I searched on the internet and found this site. this is so helpful. I am doing my research but no luck so far. Please try to understand my problem. From this site I found out that I can send consent form and my father-in-law can apply but my question is can he mail it, they live in Hyderabad, India. So can you tell me whether they have to send it to Delhi or Is Madras ok? I don't know whether Madras canadian embassy will do passport renewals or not? I looked into the website but it doesn't say anything about it. Please help me.
Thank you
Hi ,
Just go to the nearest Passport Office and fill in PPT 028 and they will guide you what to do next .
Take all the docs like Birth certificate of your baby and two pieces of ids ( both parents ) .
Also both the parents should go to the PP office ( I am assuming both are in Canada ) .
You will authorise somebody in india to get the PP made for your child .
By the way it doesnt cost you anything to get this documentation sent to the canadian consulate in India ( The PP office will do everything ) .
All the best .
Thank you for the reply. Can you please tell me does my father-in-law has to go in person to apply for the renewal or can he mail it? Madras is closer to them can they submit there? I tried to contact Madras embassy but no answer. I e-mailed also but nobody responded. If me and my husband go to the passport office to fill the form PPT 028 do they ask why we left her in India will they give any trouble for us? I am so scared.
Worst thing is what happens if my daughter passport expires? Because I can go to India in sept 07 because right now it's not possible because my husband has to undergo for leg operation. Can I renew it in sep 07? I read on the internet that the embassy will renwe passport if the old passport expiration date is less than a year. Sorry for asking lot of questions. Please help me
Thank you
