My daughter's Canadian passport is due for renewal soon. She has an OCI card. I don't want to go through the OCI miscellaneous process as it is unnecessarily complicated. I understand the need for all documents while issuing OCI the first time, but I don't understand the need to provide all documents to re-issue it.
To avoid the above hassle, can I just get her a long term visa or an e-visa? Do they issue a visa to an OCI card holder? Will getting another type of visa automatically cancel the OCI? Does anyone have experience with this?
I was in a similar situation with my child in 2013. I applied to transfer the OCI to the new passport which didn't happen in time, so I landed up applying for a visitor visa (while the OCI miscellaneous service request was in progress). In fact the BLS staff told me to wait till the last week and them apply for the visa if I don't get the OCI transferred in time. Those days evisa did not exist.
So to answer your Q, yes it's possible with no impact to OCI (at least in my case).

Anyone can travel with old passport and OCI with new passport.
I understand it is no longer necessary to transfer the U sticker from old to new PP.
Am I missing something here?
