On the other hand, I equally think Rajan has been quite a media's darling and enjoyed a good PR during his stint. The outpouring of emotions are obvious, thus. I, for the love of God, don't even know who the erstwhile RBI Governors were, except of-course Manmohan Singh. This was the extent of his 'never before' media coverage.
I don't think India or the Banking/Financial sector would anyway or adversely affected after his departure. He was just one of the Governors, did his job well, and now it's the time for another one. There shouldn't be any hue and cry over it. On a side note, aren't all Bureaucratic decisions political? So, why single this one out, whatsoever may be the reasons (i.e. the loud mouth Swamy).
Time to move on.
There are loose cannons every where..:
Rajan is/was holding the post of the Governor of the RBI and if it is to be renewed, they should EXTEND his TERM of service.
Instead they asked him to throw in his hat in the foray together with the others, see the list below. They said there will be a committee that will choose one from the list after a selection process.
If his services were needed before and he was found to rank above all of these candidates THREE years ago, then R3 needs to be the top most now, unless they find that their initial selection was wrong! OR he lacked in talent at its running (RBI). NOT SO. Now he is up for grabs.
Hence he did the best in his submission of his resignation and freed himself of this bungle!

Its a time to move on. Rajan or no-Rajan, Indian Economy is on a good path. There is no dearth of talents for this post.

A Proud Indian Canadian
If you missed this interview with R3 on the Indian TV, NDTV, here is a repeat of the same. Please go through this before they pull it off.

Recently saw one interview in ND TV by Barkha Dutt on 3R. Switched the channel, the moment he compared the conscious big loan defaulters (like the one who has now run away) to credit card payment delay by one day.
As the Head of RBI, is it not his duty to protect bank depositors money or sympathise with the thieves that their names should not be published.
All the good work done by Narendra Modi and his colleagues like Manohar Parikkar, Suresh Prabhu, Goyal and others is being carted away by one money bags nominee in the Cabinet.
If left unchecked, BJP too will go the UPA way. Swamy is BJP party MP to the Rajya Sabha and we can expect him to be loyal only to the party. He is the only barking dog and if he too is considered nuisance, the farmer only will lose his sheep to the wolf and it is not the dog's loss.

And the biggest problem that India is facing today is not GDP, growth rate etc., but it is that the people of the country are getting robbed of their wealth. There is even a bigger problem than this biggest and that is the robbers are not caught and getting punished, but are moving around as VIPs with Z category protection. People whom we think James Bond only seem to look the other way w.r.to these robberies.
