We will find a way or we will make one
anybody coming from USA should produce a letter from insurance company(its easy, jut call their cust. service) it should state that fow how long you have been their customer for and u dont have any accident calims on file. Second produce a letter of clearance from Dept of Motor Vehicle. (this is not mandatory but can be helpful) TD insurance will ask for both.
Get a membership of OACETT visit their website http://www.oacett.org" rel="nofollow">LINK this will be helpfull. I have my insurance with Certas their number is 1-800-814-0008. I dont know how much they will charge for new drivers. I had one yr driving experience in canada with ING insurance. I showed them my letter of exprience.
I hope it helps.
I pay 110$ a month for my car insuarnce, I have an old Toyota camry 1988 and have only taken 3rd party insurance if I bang and total the car its my responsiblity. I do not get reimbursed for theft or anything and I leave the car open most of the time, its in a sorry state though for anyone to steal. The more expensive the car you pay more insuarnce. Another good website to comapre quotes is http://www.kanetix.com/ or do a google and you will find lots of sites like those to compare insuarnces.
If you bundle your home, life, car as well some comapnies give you a break.
did you mentioned about your US experience

Every one has their own personality so do not comment on others. You will know better with time if you have patience.
Try RBC also.. and as some body has already written keep talking to all brokers company bank etc. etc. and etc. .. but do not give your papers ... do not commit.. u can DEFINITELY get lower rate.
and keep your vehiicle ACCIDENT FREE (reported or unreported)
i just renewed my policy with TD (auto, motorcycle and home)... and pretty much every broker i talked to said they could not beat TD rates...
