Radiohead are in a league of their own. The comparison to Floyd is inevitable.
I think “OK Computer” was about as perfect an album as I’ve seen in recent times. “The Bends” was absolutely brilliant too, that’s actually my favorite album of all time after “Dark side of the Moon”. A bit depressing but I find sorrow always has more depth, at least in music.
Incubus I’d describe as incredibly eclectic and full of positive energy that makes you want to jump up and take on the world. Their best song to date (in my opinion) is “Drive”, the strumming is fabulous and the lyrics are fantastic. It’ll be pretty easy to download if you want to.
I would recommend you start with their earlier work. One of their earlier albums “S.C.I.E.N.C.E.” in markedly heavier than some of their recent work, but its great. “New Skin” was my fav. from this album.
The next one, “Make yourself” was the one that really connected. “Pardon me” and “Drive” got the most airplay but the album on a whole was really good. Very very positive. Their next album’s coming out sometime in Nov. end.
Hoobastank’s “Reason” was kinda nice and SwitchFoot’s “Meant to live” was okay too. I don’t know anything about anything else on their albums.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Another really good Brit band (I think they've split now) is Blur. (So was Oasis but I never liked the band, only the music)
Blur's self-titled album that came out in the late 90s was awesome listenin'. "Song 2" ROCKED!! T'was an instant hit and helped sell the album like cupcakes. The other stuff on the album was pretty good too. I guess you can call them an Alt. rock band if you must categorize, however they do experiment a lot with keyboards and synths. and the results comes out great on the ears.
Speaking of Synths..if you're into any electronica / techno stuff, get "Exit Planet Dust" from the Chemical brothers. Boy o Boy do I miss going nuts on a dance floor when the DJ spun from that album.

Btw, I'm aware I'm getting carried away here, moving to Chemical brothers from your original Metallica question.
Apologies, but this stuff brings back some of the wild 90s memories that aren't easy to shake.

I love BLur and thogh it took some time I like Oasis now.
I dont like much of techno stuff but I heard chemical brothers are good.
Here are a few more brit bands that I like....
PULP - Common People
NEW ORDER - Best would be to get the Best of Or you can dl Blue monday, Age of consent, shellshock, Temptation, thieves like us, regret, to get an idea of what they sound like. Lot of Synth but different from techno.
