Hi Guys,
During preparing 2004 tax return via ufile I got stuck in between and have following question for the spouse return
Q1:On Tution/Education/Student loan there is a option "Treatment of unused tuition and education amounts" and "Portion of unused amount you wish to transfer (maximum $5,000".My wife is doing her full time Masters Degree in Concordia and got her RL-8 .Could she transfer the entire tution fee to me.
Q2:Can she claim for our child's daycare fee under speacial condition on the basis that she is full time student. We got the tax slip for federal taxation from daycare.
Q3:For quebec resident do we need to send electronically the same file twice via NETFILE for federal and provincial tax return ?It seems the access code is different for federal and provincial.
Thanks

Hi ani70,
I am not sure about PQ rules but I'd try to answer your questions based on Federal and Ontario tax rules.
A1: Your wife can transfer all her tution and education amounts to you subject to Federal and provincial maximums. Any unused credits from previous years cannot be transferred.
A2: Yes. You can claim child's daycare expenses as she is a full-time student.
A3: I think so because PQ is the only province collecting its own taxes directly. But call CRA to be sure.

About q3, I think yes. Since its the MRQ that is responsible for quebec income tax.
I found this info.
If you live in Québec, you need to file two separate tax returns:
a Québec return to Revenu Québec; and
a federal return to the CRA.
Québec residents also need a separate 6-digit access code to file their provincial return electronically with Revenu Québec. If you did not receive a tax package from Revenu Québec or it did not include an access code, contact them to obtain one.

Hi,
With u guys help I was able to complete tax return file for entire family via UFILE.
After completion I got following warning against my tax calculation
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The amount deducted as QPP contributions on the federal tax return is the amount actually deducted at source on the T4 by the employer. The amount deducted as QPP contributions on the Quebec tax return is the amount that should have been deducted at source by the employer on the RL-1. If the employer did not deduct a sufficient amount of QPP on the employee's pay, the Ministère du revenu du Québec's opinion is that the employer is responsible for paying the balance and the employee is therefore entitled to his/her full credit.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Further I checked and found out that in RL 1 employee's QPP contributions shown in RL-1 Box 18 and QPP pensionable earnings shown in RL-1 box G and I filled up both those correctly in my file.
Should I overlook this considering as just an warning ?
Thanks
