Hi,
I know for a family of 2, CAD 11,000 is required. Is it possible to bring a less amount (4 - 6 K) while entering Canada and then later manage the money. Will this cause any issues while entering Canada ? or can I enter Canada with less amount than what is required ? Please advise.

Play it safe and get the required amount of funds - why do you want to take a chance?

Hi,
Yes, you must carry the required funds with you at the time of entry to Canada. This could be in the form of Cash, Traveller Cheques and/or bank draft payable in Canada.
The officer at the port of entry will ASK how much money you are bringing in with you and may request to SEE it as well.
So, beg or borrow, carry the required amount with you. You can always return the money to whom you owe later.
Hope this helps!

We landed with $2000 cash to cover our 7 day stay in Toronto and had a Bank Statement for the rest. The Immigration officer didn't even ask to see the Bank Statement or the funds we had with us. If you don't have all the funds but can "manage a bank statement", you can always tell the Immigration officer that You will be "Permanently" moving to Canada over a period of a few months and will transfer all the funds to Canada in that period.

I have received my visas and will be moving alone in the first week of May, followed by my wife and a 13 year old son a month later. So can I just carry say 10K CAD with me out of the 15387 CAD required for a family of 3 persons, as the balance will come with them. This has been discussed only once in the forum and that too long time ago.
