What you carry in addition to the required amount which you can take back for reconciliation, and for personal use can be in any form and in any currencies that you choose and use it prudently. Also, take good care of it.
The DD that you carry will take care of the CBSA`s mandatory requirements.
Once again, PLEASE declare the TOTAL amount you carry in person.

Ok. That makes it amply clear.
A couple of follow-up queries:
1. Can I take the entire amount in CAD in travellers cheques? I already have carried some forex on a prepaid card.
2. Do I have to deposit the amount in a Canadian bank? In that case I will have to open an account in Canada and we won’t have the time for that. Or I can bring the traveller’s cheques back with me to India and encash it again?
