Asha,
What city are you moving from in TX? I moved from HOU to Canada in Dec 2000.
Is Canada better than US? Depend on the parameters you set for comparison ;-)
I can not compare Education, Didn't study in Canada, only in US and India. Personally I prefer US education over Canadian. Canadian educated professional people, I interacted with in Canada, seem more closer to those with Indian education.
Living - In comparison to TX, living is expensive in Ottawa and Toronto (two cities I lived since moving to Canada), higher rents, higher transportation cost, higher house prices, higher grocery bill. The worst part is Taxes - too high in comparison to TX.
Entertainment - comparable to HOU. Again depend on what are you looking for entertainment wise. Desi entertainment may be better in Toronto.
Employment - Education and experience in US will help over other new immigrants but \"Canadian experience\" stunt will be tried on you too. Just know how to handle it. If you have enough saving, look at self-employment/business route instead of wasting time and money searching for job. Again depend on how long you stayed in US (US education, experience and your adaptability to American way makes a difference) to have that kind of \"risk taking\" attitude.
Climate - Very cold in comparison to HOU.
Desi Food - Toronto comparable to HOU or slightly better.
Also the reason for your shift to Canada from US will be a big factor in you feeling satisified ... I met both types.
Asha,
i have two words for you "Stay there".
I have done what you are contemplating and am miserable.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.

"Come to Canada for BITTER prospects, and not BETTER prospects."
.....aapka dosth
Hi Asha,
You have your question posted for some time now and you probably got some good replies but still here is my two cents worth:
I LOVE CANADA, we moved here whenI was 15, and now I am married and settled here with a baby girl, but this is the better country.
Sure, it is mre pay there, but you have to pay for medical services and HIGH education costs... in college...
Depending on where you settle down, eg Toronto, it is a better environment for the kids, do u hear about shooting in school in Canada, about 10 yr kids carrying drugs, racism, ... not much.. and certainly not as much as US...
If it makes a difference.. US is supposed to be a melting pot of cultures, you are supposed to melt and become like one of the American in In Canada , you are encouraged to keep your culture and identity and it is a mosaic of different culutures..
Hope this helps
I would say that for 99% of desis currently in US, Immigrating to Canada is not a choice but a necessity because they cant get US Green Card after years and years of trying.
BOTTOM LINE
If you have US green card or US Citizenship then staying in US is better option.
If you are illegal in US or are in nonimmigrant status H1 with little hope of US green cardand you are getting Canada PR then move to Canada
If you are on H1 and have "hopes" of getting green card take Canada PR and live in US for 3 yrs.
Thanks

Excellent analysis and suggesion
I just want to add something in last option:
After landing move back to USA( if your H1B is valid ) and try your level best to get a Canadian job in next 3 years. If you're not getting either Canadian job or US GC in next 3 years try to return Back to Canada (with maximum saved US$)again look for job ...worst case scenario stay for 3 years in Canada..get citizenship and move back to USA
N.B If you manage to get a job in Canada in your own field you might not want to go back to USA ..Canada is much better place to settle down on long term perspective
