The HP CEO was fired too with a lot of politics going on and had a severence of 22 million dollars US but she too was fired without notice to her and the world but thats life .
Nothing about desi culture and being single . All about office politics and corporate survivial not necessarily ethical ..

With what I have seen, with these kind of corporate /company philosophies, the lower / middle level people are always hard hit. There is no comparison between CEO and high level people getting fired, they always make ridiculously high level of money specially in modern times with stock options, bonus etc.
One can only sympathise.
Are you kidding? Being single is the best thing in this scenario. You only have to worry about yourself. And if you are smart while working, you can build significant nest-egg for such rainy days. You can take the type of risks that you will never consider when you have family responsibilities.
Once, I told my employer to take a hike and walked out knowing I can live for next 4-5 years without working if I need to...went on world travel for 4 months. I would never have done crazy things like this if I wasn't single.

Well my experience wasn't to blame the desi's collectively.
Being single is a major factor , you have no support . When you are in Canada and not completely established, your main source of income is your work, and your life depends on that. (if u dont want to settle with welfare)
So being single really holds you to be silent to certain things u see which are against your ethics..
Again its just a remote incident, not to offend desi's
Thats good for you anil, may be you made enough bank balance, but what abt pple who immigrated to canada and struggled to get a decent "professional"job going through all the "transitional"jobs. Those pple wont want to take a risk of leaving the employer and going back to gas stations.
I do agree with you the fact that while you are single, the % of risk you can take is much higher. Which makes me glad that I'm one of them

PLEASE DO NOT FEEL OFFENDED
I think everyone here is missing the point that Physco is trying to put.
I have been here for 11 months and in those 11 months even I felt that the desis are not that forth coming with the help that a new immigrant needs. Most of the desis have a narrow thought process, negative approach and feel that each new desi immigrant has to start life in the same manner in which they started. I have got more help from people who are not from the desi community.
As some of you have mentioned that there is politics in work place and have referred to the CEO of HP being fired without notice. I think the comparison between a CEO and a seceratary is not justified. In this particular case, when the lady went and asked about herself, the employers should have been forthcoming with what they were planning to do. The lady would not have been left high and dry had the employers told her of their intentions.
Desis who have spend more time in Canada and know the country well, should be forthcoming with help. Hope that we can change this.
