I don't really see ANY sponsors or sponsored Ads or banner's or posts on CD.

I mean besides the few annoying Ads & pop ups from Ad Sense, don't really see anything else.

I know Adsense is a very crappy program from Google, and very hard to make money out of it..unless you have millions of unique visitors ( which CD doesn't have ).

Are there any paid sponsors on CD ? Besides the crappy Ad sense ads ?

Not sure if the owner is making any money or just breaking even or maybe even losing money from CD.

Actually his overheads are probably NOT that high. You don't really need much bandwidth or Server costs to run a forum or blog type thingy these days.

Also ready made forum templates are & word press themes, mostly FREE or nominal cost these days.

Who is the owner of CD, BTW ?

Is it just one person ? Or a couple of people ?

I believe it was someone named ( not sure ) - Garvo Gujrati or something like that ( maybe I am wrong )

Do the Admins, Moderators etc have any stake in CD or are they just unpaid volunteers on this forum ?

Who are the various Admins, Mods etc on CD ? I see a couple, here & there . Are there more ? Is there a list, somewhere of them ?

Also, with only 5-7 posters post most of the days, I don't think it's getting any exposure as such. Looks like, most of it is being used for 'Charcha'.

It'll be interesting to know what module/section is attracting majority of the traffic.

Do not know answers to most of the qs above ( and it does not affect me also ) but ...

Canadian Desi threads come up on the first page of google searches along with RFD .

It sure is a successful and popular forum in Canada for desis and non desis alike ..

I have also noted Canada Visa referring to CD as a wealthy information resource .



Years back I had received a pm from some one not to post on CD for free as the owners make profit over what we contribute ... Passed that as the owners have also made this medium for helping CD s to come together.

But just in general :

1. When, Why, How it was started. Purpose ( although obvious ), how it was developed. The journey to get here etc.

Initial contributors. if they are still here or no more etc.

Just a brief summary & synopsis, that's all. Might help new CD's to understand the background & motive behind CD & who the players behind it are or were

I may be wrong but here goes.

CD was the brain child of a software engineer from Gujarat (I refrain from naming him since I am not sure if he will want this data to be published) who did software job in Toronto and his passion was uniting all Canadians with a common platform for sharing mutually benifical information for CD's to benefit.

He colaborated with BL, Jake3D and Chandresh and they had a brainstroming session and CD was born.

All moderators are not paid / donot have any stake but volunteer their time.

I see a couple of advt's on CD like Shaadi.com, some immigration firm and RBC. But this was like a year back or even prior.

Initial contributors were :
GG, Chandresh, BL, Maharaj, Jake3D, Pratikm, Mercury 6, DIO, DTC, Biomed, Massoodji etc...
