Hi all,
I'm planning to move from San jose, CA to Toronto. I'm sure quite a few of you have moved from USA to Canada. Looking for recos for reliable movers for my car and household items.
Thx,
Sri
Hi,
I moved my stuff in the opposite direction - from New Jersey to Vancouver. I came to know about this company called Vegaline through a colleague in my new company in Vancouver. They took 2 weeks and all the items came in one piece without any damages. Not sure if there are any cheaper ones, but am very happy with the quality of service and friendliness of the staff. I'm sure they move from California to Toronto as well. Call them (www.vegaline.com) for a quote. For me (from NJ to Vancouver) it was approx $1 per pound + customs and other charges.
BTW, why do you want to move East, after having been in the West all along? I just came here and I love the west coast !!
If you are moving from SanJose to Vancouver the distance is less than 1000 miles and you can take a U-haul one way rental.
It will work out Cheap. No Custom charges .
Thanks Jughead for the info. I'll contact them.
Yes I'm going to miss the CA weather and lifestyle , but it is a work related move
Monk, I'm moving from CA to Toronto, so driving is ruled out.
Hi
Can anyone share any info on what are the charges invovled for moving personal household good by movers from USA to Canada ?
I did readthe threads above ahd they mentioned that the cost would be around $1 per pound. What other charges will apply and how much could they be? Can anyone who has moved provide me a quote ?
Much appreciate any help here.
thanks.
Wht you want to move? If you adpot doing 'gargage sale' and buy eveything again.. from toronto.. all cost same..depend on wht you hve.
If you have very costly furniture, but then if you do ... and heavy its gonna to cost you a lot. To move your car understable..
Wht I did.. is this.. get ride of all wht i have and i can buy after coming to toronto. Even I sold my car(basically it was old - so not make sense to spend 3000) on it..
Then i have put all in boxes which is my personnel stuff, and need it...like books papers.. gifts..presonnel..clthes which I don't need immd..and give it to friend to send thru courier company later.
Carry 2-3 suitcases with me.. which is realted to like all my orignial papers..clothes..
when you land first time to Toronto, everything should be custom free as landed immigrant means you can bring whtever you want with you..as your personnel stuff.. so no custom.
Now when I landed in toronto, I told them my stuff is coming later on in shippment (whtever) so they will give you paper to fill out.and you can keep with you.. so when your courrier arrives (whtever way later on your boxes) if they charge custom you can send this letter to them..and then its' free.
believe me.. in same money .. I have bought everything back again and brand new. oh ya, but during tht time.. i got $1 usd = $1.50 canadian.. so it ws worth to buy here.. rather than paying big in USD for moving.
create spreadsheet..list of how much it cost if you buy again and compare.. your moving expense..will give you very clear picture.
another reason is .... moving, packing ..unpacking is headque....
rather than tht. for couple of small differnce $$ you can buy new stuff..and you can count tht time to make more money if you are in iT you are worth of $50 per hour.. so compare tht too..
I am not sure.. this calcuation is correct or not.. but as I didn't hve very costly furniture ..its work out at the end for me. and hassle free.
Dance_Dude_007,
I agree with Binal, it's not worth moving your household items if they are n't expensive.
I moved everything because my company took care of the moving cost. As was mentioned in the earlier post it cost about $1.10/ pound + a few other charge like customs etc.( mine came to around $100).
I moved my cars for $1500 per car + sufference charges(50+) from San jose to Toronto. But you need to custom charges depending on the value of your car. I'm not sure how much is it.
If you need more info you can PM me.
Cheers,
Sri
