Could any one offer me some help on moving and packing options available in Toronto? I am terminating my current lease on Nov.30/04 and do not have CAR at present. What are the options available to move? Does some body offer driver and truck to move and if yes what will be the approximate cost? plz. post your reply.

There are many guys for local shifting with Van & driver & also loaders. They will charge you around 150-200 CAD around depeneds upon the load, distance time etc.etc.

One friend moved recently from Brampton to Downtown. 220 with truck and driver.

I moved 2 time in the last year. I rented U haul and did it myself with my brother. cost < 100 $ each time + the effort.

I feel giving a $ figure without giving other details like, volume of goods, time taken, types of things to be moved etc is giving a wrong impression.

I moved two months ago with slightly over one container/trailer of load and paid a total of $900. Everything was packed by me. The movers came, picked it up, put in on the truck, took it to the new place (9kms away), and put everything where I wanted it (specially the furniture). There were four guys (East europens) and started the job at 9 am and finished by 2.30 pm since everything was nicely packed and placed and marked (as to where each individual thing has to go - eg. kitchen, master, basement, family, living etc.)

For such services, the normal charges that I have seen range from $55-75 per hour with three men and truck. One more man and you can add another $20 per hour on an average. Also, charges depend on the type of dwellings you are moving from and to (apartment, or house or basement or bunglow). A bunglow to bunglow would be cheapest since it is on floor level to floor level.

Generally speaking, Chandreshji is quite right...but I feel we have to shop around...bargian...and even ask them straight up to give is flat rate. I am moving from Apt to Condo Apt on 30th Oct....presently I live in 1 bdrm....I did have to bargian and finally was quoted CAD $250 flat..... As Chandreshji mentioned...it could have been lesser, if it was a move to house.

I am also to keep everything ready in boxes, duly marked as kitchen/washroom/living room etc.....as regards to our bed/couch/futon/dinning table.....the mover will disassemble the same and re-assemble at new condo....the biggest hurdle was booking elevator at current apt/mover time/booking elevator at new condo....but eventually I did get it....

Once again, my suggestion is to call as many movers as possible...and ask them to quote you flat rate as opposed to hourly rate.

if you need the tel # of movers whom I hired...send me a PM

I am not familiar with approximate cost of movers and packers services but I can suggest you one thing that Never give any money at delivery point before, until you self inspect all your goods are really delivered in safe conditions or not. So, it will help you to make financial pressure on Packers and Movers Company to solve the problem if arises.
