I need to apply for a B2 visa. However all the apointments are booked in Toronto, so I have booked an apointment in ottawa.
I would like some advice on what happens during the interview and any pointers from anyone who has been through the process. Also when do they give your passport back after the interview....
thanks in advance..

In toronto the passport is given the next business day evening ( about 4pm ) . Whereas in Ottawa it is given back the same evening ( the last time I heard ). This , of course if you get the Visa.
Regarding Visa interview, the emphasis is onthe following
1. How long have you been in Canada
2. What is your status in Canada ( PR , Student , Visitor etc )
3. What is your current occupation and
4. How long have been in the current job
5. Pay stubs ( atleast one year's stubs )
6. Apt lease / house ownership papers
7. Bank statements and Bank balance certificate from the bank
8. Why are you going to US / When / Where / How long
9 . When will you return . How do you intend to travel etc
10. Income tax returns statement from CRA
Hope this answered some of your questions
Good Luck

I am from Toronto. I was just wondering if they will question as to why I am going to Ottawa for the visa. The reason is that there is no appointment available in toronto. is that considered okay?

michelle288,
U can tell them that there was no appt available in Toronto for your travel plans. That should suffice. Ultimately it's their discretion while granting visa (I should say it's the mood of the high school educated visa officer).

And answer exactly what you are asked, nothing less, nothing more.
