I have written in details what we can do at the meeting - but I have received some private messages and have seen a few similar posts in this forum, and so, to clarify further, this meeting shall be:

1. To exchange / share ideas for betterment of everyone
2. Find people of similar interests and grow a larger circle of like minded people.
3. Help would-be and new and existing immigrants from South Asia, specially desis.
4. Make groups of people having experience/knowledge in particular field (like software/finance/tax/performing arts/sports/medicine etc. ) who can share their knowledge and provide free assistance to the extent possible to other members of the group.
5. Discuss ideas to educate would be immigrants about the harsh life of Canada and help them make right decisions.
6. Form groups/discuss ways to help new immigrants settle down in Canada both in terms of job and family life.
7. help each other in \"Networking\"
8. Make a platform where immigrants having problems can come for solutions, and people who have succeeded in life (or made similar mistakes), help them in form of advice, networking, educating, and if possible, going the extra mile to make that person smile.

And the like!

This extra message is for BL - BL you are an important contributor to this site, and in my opionion, a person who has better understanding of life than many others. In case you are going to be away in January, do you think we can keep the meeting in the long weekend of late December? What matters more in the first meeting is not the number, but gathering of those people who really want this to happen and contribute - and I think you are one important pillar for this forum. But again we will have to ask for the availability of J3D - he said he is busy in December - but well, busy, not away! Think about it guys.

Wow! Thanks for those super-duper kind words, Chandresh, I am dumbfounded and at a complete loss of words. Let me assure you, I'm just an average Joe who would like to give back to the society he takes from. Nothing more than that. I do hope you typed my ID there by accident and that you really meant Rashmibhai, who's done such a wonderful thing by creating Canadiandesi and giving us all a voice.

In any case, I can certainly make myself available during the later part of December if it works for others. And if it does not, maybe we can have a little christmas get-together for people who are able to make it and then you guys go ahead and have the Jan 10 meeting as scheduled.

Are you there?

Apart from the fact that I am wrapping my film(which i've been working on since may2002..and just waiting to finish) the logistics involved in bringing 2 kids below the age of 6 to Toronto during xmas time is a tad inconvenient. e.g: i'll be staying with friends and relatives who have probaby already made their xmas plans and I'm not keen on inconveniencing them at this stage. My daughters bday is on the 30th of dec and we have to make arrangements for that celebration too.

What i'd suggest is that you guys go ahead and I'll hook up later if it is that much of a problem for me. With our varied priorities and schedules finding the right time is going to be difficult. Remember that even in Jan..all it takes for me to cancel my trip is a snowstorm and such.
