I filed for my taxes last year 2004 for the first time. And did not receive any notice of assessment till now. I just called them and they informed me that they are still processing my tax return. I need to have that attached in spouse sponsorship forms. Please suggest what is the alternative, or if anyone has been in this situation before. I will be going to India in Oct'05.

1. When did you submit / file the tax returns ?
2. Was the form filled correctly and all the documents attached ?
3. Did you file through an accountant or filled your own forms?
All these factors have a bearing on the assesment .
IN your case being a new immigrant and having filed for the first time, they would look into or ask details of your income in INdia for the remaining period of 2004 .Keep your Indian income details for 2004 plus the copies of your 2004 tax return filing forms and then call Canadian revenue agency and inform them of your case and urgency .

I had submitted the tax returns at the end of April, 05
2. Was the form filled correctly and all the documents attached ?
I think so, I had submitted all the required documents. My 2004 income was from USA, and I had attached all the W2s with my forms.
3. Did you file through an accountant or filled your own forms?
I got mine filed through an accountant, just to be on the safe side, being the first timer.
I talked to Canadian Revenue Agency. They have put a request through to speed up my assessment of taxes. Let's see how soon they process it now.
