I've been watching the NDTV 24 Hours NEWS TV currently offered free as a part of promotion in Rogers Cable.
The quality of news programming, investigative journalism is \\\"OUTSTANDING\\\". The issues discussed, taking cameras into places out of bounds and many other things makes me very proud of those Indian TV journalist. Their coverage of the recent Marine Drive Rape, the police lathicharge at the cricket ground is simply superb. You are there, when the NEWS happens. The clock at the top right hand corner makes you feel that you are still in India.
Todays interview with Rahul Dravid was really superb. It was heartening to see such a cool, casual and down to earth Cricket Captain of India after Kapil Dev.
They did a piece on Dawood in Islamabad, and they even showed the lastest pictures of him.
Todays news coverage-visit report into Assam was an eye opener. I was very elated to see some students of Islamic back ground, who are studying in Hindu schools in Gauhati, narrating Sanskrit Slokas by heart. I wish my children who are hindus by birth would be able to narrate the way they did. It was outstanding to see their parents justifying their children learning Sanskrit,as we are in India, we need to learn the language and hence the slokas.
If you get time, try to watch this news programming(if you have PIP-Picture in Picture) you should try putting NDTV on one side and our own CBC on the other side and see the difference in programming. The thing I'm trying to put forward is that NEWS is both audio and visual. It should not be just audio only with static pictures.
Wow one more ace in Desi's sleeves.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
I completely agree with you Shankaracharya. The quality of news in India had improved dramatically in past 10-15 years. Canadian channels most of the time show American programs or in front of indian channels looks like watching Canadian Doordarshan. Hindi programs on Canadian channel - If I don't say anything about it is good....

It is indeed wonderful to watch NDTV here in Canada....at times we know things quicker than ppl in india who might not be watching the news at that time!! No doubt its a great channel with excellent news coverage. It doesnt compare much with cnn or even with our local citypulse24.
And yes the hindi programmes on the local channels here..i have seen some on Omni2 ....they are deplorable. they shud just stop airing them. Has anyone ever seen a serial by the name on Canadiandesi on onmi 2 sometime back?? i think they discontinued it now...thankgod for that.
