All that your consultant says is true EXCEPT the adjective "EASily".

Yes, a couple can make $3,000 (Gross) in odd jobs.
Yes, a couple can meet household expenses in $1500.

However, the couple will have to make a lot of compromises with life, specially if coming from a well educated background and reasonably well placed life professionally.

But if you are young and willing to make compromises in the early days of settlement - Canada is the place to try and make your dream come true.

Thanks Chandresh,

Can u pls also tell me what's the difference between the gross & net income, i.e taxes, insurances etc.

I am also getting an offer from a non-professional renter, of a shared accomodation of CAD $ 525, all inclusive, except computer. Is it an economical offer?

Going by ur suggestion, I think I am on the right track- as I am quite mediocre in my studies, total work ex of 8 yrs in pharma sales ( 6 yrs as medical rep & 2 yrs as supervisor), posted 2100 km away from my hometown. Same goes for my spouse

What do u think?

Approximate insurance quotes. You have not mentioned which insurance.

Please clarify: What is non-professional renter? Shared accommodation by how many persons? $525 For how many persons? Location? Basement? When are you landing in Canada?

Easiest job here to get is a labor job in a factory. Christmas is very dull for hiring even for factory and labor jobs and actually this is layoff season, that is what I heard. You can get a job in your field but initially be prepared to do such odd jobs. People who odd jobs or ordinary labor jobs here buy house and car and they earn for their house and car and not for themselves. Car is essential because in some parts of this country, bus services are very poor and it is very cold and snowy to stand outside waiting for the bus.

I do not understand what is 2100 km thing is or is it a typo? Distance between Calcutta to Bombay is 1677 km. Canada would be more than 13,000 km from your hometown! I mean you cannot stick to your hometown all your life.

Hi Basu,

As Chandresh Ji has said that a family of 2 can certainly make $3000 doing odd jobs if AND THAT IS A VERY BIG IF you get even those odd jobs. Getting odd jobs also is not very easy. Whether it is working in a factory, driving cab, delivering pizza, doing security guard job and that too at a very odd time (mostly late or night shifts) and may be at a far away place from where you live where it may not be possible for you to reach there in 2 hours time. You should count yourself very lucky if you get any type of odd job with in a month of your arrival. Here jobs are generally not advertized but people get them through networking or mostly through job agencies. And these job agencies would take some tests and then would keep you on their lists and would ask you to wait for their calls. You might get a call and to go work at one place one day and it could be other place another day and more so most of the times you will wait for the phone to ring and can not even go out and look for other jobs or do your grocery and other shopping. It really gives you a frustration some times but if you are determined and would not mind all these problems, then you can definitely succeed here and then you will not regret about your decision to come here.

Good Luck and Enjoy Life

There are positions in investment and financial services. This is high season for this field. New comers may take advantage of the same. Get attached to any existing company, branch or unit and start moving.
