This has been tackled a few times before but I think that the importance of coming here at a younger age is not stressed enough. I think that the younger you are the more suited you are to surviving the initial hiccups faced by many, physically and mentally.
Infact, I would say that if you are younger than 25 (give plus 3-4 yrs at the most) and if you meet the eligibility criteria and/or have someone in Canada to help you get settled, do not delay your immigration (if you are seriously considering it). I know quite a few folk who want to make enough money in places like the middleeast before coming here. What I would say is that unless you plan to put away more than 100000$ or more Canadian before you are 33-34...it maybe a better Idea to come here right away. 20000-30000 $ at 35 with 2 kids does not go a long way in Canada. Its better to have a bigger financial cushion, if things get bad, to fall back on after 35. If you got to start from scratch why not do it at a younger age?
I know that not everyone has the financial means to immigrate at 25 but i've found that resettling gets tougher the older you are. The circumstances may not be as forgiving as they are when you are 25. I think that my biggest advantage was coming here when I was 24. I could afford to make plenty of mistakes (and I have. However, I have had enough time to recover from the same.
p.s: I think I have been quite moderate with the $ amounts above

Good point, Jake. Some other advantages of immigrating at a younger age
1) The cultural adjustment is much easier. And that goes a long way towards settling in a new country.
2) At 25, you're probably single or a couple without kids. When you arrive you can both focus on finding jobs rather than worrying about things like baby-sitting or kids education.
3) If you do have to take up a job that involved manual labor to survive the initial period, you'll be able to handle it much better at a younger age.
And if you yourself are capable and motivated enough, it is not difficult to move up the ladder here in Canada once you've endured the initial struggle. So if you start at 25, you can be in a very comfortable postiion by say 35.

Are you there?
I agree.
I think after the age of 40 it is very difficult to settle down. The age of kids also important.
Once your kids goes to school and they settle down with the school system it is difficult to change the place.
If your kids are too small and they need baby sitting then also it requires lot of adjustments.

A Proud Indian Canadian
hi
I am here at the age of 21 and i too feel that if you wanna come come as early as possible .thats bçoz you have to make a struggle in life no matter where you are why not think long term and settle in a place which has a better future.Financial cushion thing is definately there but settlement is much easier when compared to seniors.
Student visa is definately a better option then immigration to come here.
right now i am all alone here ( can be a negative as well ) and so i can do what i think and feel and have no baggage with me.Then if i am not able to settle here or feel this is not the place where i am cut out for i can actually save the amount i have spended and go back.
when i land here i dont have to think what i have to do next but for atleast 7-8 months i have to focus on college which gives me ample time to get to know this place and moreover reading from the posts in this site I will also gain advantage of canadian education.
Job search becomes easier with good resources at college and getting into job market is much more easier with things like co-op available in college.
then you dont have to wait for 3 years to get your visas so even if u decide to move back you dont have to think for citizenship.
(i have herad this from many people that they are just waiting for citizenship and will move back soon after that)
So i feel one should come right after grade 12 at the earliest or try and come as early as possible.

Sucess is not an accident it is a result of hardwork with intelligence.
I agree with what you say
You also mentioned something I could not understand

IMO, Canadian passport is more valued than Indian passport. Once you have Canadian passport, it is easier to travel all over the world and you are able to work and live in different countries without much hassles. Try doing that with Indian passport!
With Indian Passport, you have to plan thoroughly and in advance with all the VISA regulations etc. where as with Canadian Passport you can fly by the seat of your pants. Nobody is going to tell you that you can not go to Spain or Bahamas from London because you don't have proper VISA authorization.

If they think that this place is not good enough for them why do they wait for citizenship? Does it mean that a Canadian citizenship is more valued?
Can someone explain?
So its a matter of convenience. Not that its very wrong but I still consider people who stay behind only for passports hypocrites. I guess they have to recover the money they spent somehow.
Different strokes for different folks!
