Well to start with , lets see the time lines involved in my case

1- Applied in Nov 2000 from Delhi
2- Got File Number some where in 2001
3- Got request for IELTS some where in 2004 ( Did not respond)
4- Called for Interview in Feb 2006 ( Cleared)
5- Medicals in May 2006 ,Submitted Landing fee
6- All of a sudden receive request for PCC from Nigeria
7- God helped me out ,submitted PCC in July
8- Got the Visa docs in Sep 2006 (14th to be precise)
9- Visa expiring in May 2007

How ever during the 6 years taken by my application, a lot have changed
my Mom passed away last year , My Dad has developed a Heart Ailment & has also retired from the Job.

In short being the only Son & Mom not around I am not in a position to leave dad back in India all on his own, I can not take the risk of going to Canada & then trying to call him as
a) There is no guaruntee that i will settle down in 3-4 months ,
b) Even if I settle down I am not sure if My Dad will be given a Visitors Visa.

I am not sure how to move forward , would appreciate some inputs from the Forum..........worst case scenario is that I drop in , get my formaities done & fly back to India......................any other way out ???

Í'm sorry about your situation But you are the only one who can make that decision.
talk to your father see what he says. My mom lived alone for 2yr with all of us out. She let us decide what we wanted to do. My sister opted to go back not because of our mother but because she felt like going back . today she isnt frustrated that she was forced to take that decision and my mom doesnt feel she dragged her back. My mother has all her family living near by and she kept herself busy with them. they kept an eye on her and she surrounded her self with friends. Today she has her own life and she is happy.

hi azami...u seems to be a bit pessimistic to me.....how do u know u won't get ur father's visa...or you wont be able to settle there.....with thinking like this ;u will never be able to take decision....its always a tough decsion to immigrate....in my case my father cant walk without a walker...my mom is not in vey gud health...my father is 80 yrs now.....but still i feel that i would be able to take them with me as soon as possible.....as a punjabi i never think negative....i feel that i would make my place in canda too.....'God ne 2 haath kyun diye hein bhai....in the end it's upto you to decide but never stand on 2 boats ....else you fall is imminent...all the best:cheers:

I do not think it is pessimism. PR card does not come with assured job and morever a job that would like to do. Also depending on the profession you are in, you may need certification or be required to study to do the job you like to do.

You have to consider both sides of the situation. Even if you bring your father on visitor visa, the medical insurance companies will not cover existing illness. He will be covered by OHIP (or whatever depending on the province) only after he becomes PR and that could take a few years.

Once you land, you have to live in Canada for 730 days in next 5 years to maintain your PR.

Drop in for a month in Canada after 1 month of posting your resume on Workopolis and Monster and communication with prospective Employers from India itself.

That way , you would be able to assess your chances of getting a job. Experience Canada for 1 month or as long as circumstances permit. Return back and decide for yourself over the next 3 years - maybe circumstances may change again.

But remember if you decide to sponsor your father , the sooner the better as at any time it will be a wait for 3-4 years .

Sorry to hear about your situtation, you have s pretty tough call to make.

Unfortunately, can't offer you much constructive adivce, however can warn you about one thing based on my friend's experience.

If your Dad has a heart condition, he may even not be eligible for sponsorship. Recently, one of my friend's Dad immigration was rejected owing to a health issue. So before you make any plans of moving here and sponsoring, please ensure that your Dad's condition won't be a roadblock.

Have you tried speaking to a lawyer (NOT immigration consultant)? I'm not sure how stringent the 2/5 year requirement is, but my guess is there must be some exceptions on humanitarian grounds. That would at least give you more time to think / formulate your options.

Are you there?
