YES !.

In a recent survey in India more than 50% of the respondents wanted to be reborn in India in their next birth.

Yes ! India is a dirty place with garbage piled up, people urinating and defecating on the road side, with caste problems and other related problems.

But what we count out is the population and the percentage of the population of youth who are bright, ambitious and want a better life. They have an undying fire in their belly to move up and make a better life for themselves in turn bring up their society around them.

For Eg: Since 2004, there has been an explosion in terms of employment, investment, information and technology in India. EVERY Tom, Dick and Harry carries a cellphone if not two. All the major corporations in the world are setting shop in India with India as its major market. Indian economy is based on its consumption than exports like China.

India has the highest number of educated, highly skilled professionals in all fields and with education being made more accessible we would have more educated and skilled people in times to come.

In terms of Investments, entrepreneurial skills Indians are second to none. Look at the case of the Maran brothers from Tamil Nadu. They have made SUN TV a billion Dollar company and have been instrumental in bringing in Who is Who of the world to invest in Tamil Nadu. If two brothers can do it, how many more are there to follow.

If India fixes its infrastructure we will be a force to reckon with in the next 10 years. Just wait and watch President Kalams dream of 2020 will be achieved by 2015.

The evidence of the spectacular growth is something what I can see in my own family. Here I've just completed my 3 years in Canada and waiting to move to USA, while my brother who is in mid 30's is a Director in Nokia - Cellular Phone multinational making US $ salaries sitting in India. My neighbour in India, is the Director - Strategic Planning - Asia Pacific for Phillips Semi Conductor Division chauffeur driven Merc in India. These guys are buying up condos in Hiranandanis and Farm houses in Whitefield, Bangalore. At any given time they have 3 recruiters trying to recruit them and they are talking of handling Rs.400 to 600 Crores annual budgets.

Just to put a sword through my already bleeding heart, the guy who sat in the next cubicle of mine in Mumbai is the Managing Director of BOC India handling an annual turnover of Rs.800 Crores. They were all Managers and Senior Managers in October 2003. While I'm still talking about hourly rates and talking about $ or 2 increases.

Yes grass is greener on the other side, but there is a big problem in terms of technological and scientific investment/advancement in Canada. This is going to decide the future in the next 20 years. I do not see a Noble Prize winner in Science and Technology from Canada, I see a plenty of them from India. Just look at the recent Booker prize winner. Just adding Bollywood ring tones is a not a technological advance by a Cell Phone company.

Most of the R&D centres are all being moved to India, while the Pharma giants from India are investing in Mexico and Canada. I know many Pharma companies in Ontario who are Laying off people sometimes 100's of them, while Indian companies are hiring at will.

Whether we like it or not Reliance, Bharti, TATA, Birla, Goenkas and others are the global brands of the near future. It has been proven by the Mittals and others are following quietly.

Just look at the movie Don starring SRK. The watch company called Tag-Haeur have designed a new watch called Monaco 69 for this. How many movies in Hollywood in recent times did something like that. Your own Wal-Mart has a section for Bollywood movies now a days. Brangelina are sitting Pune as we speak. The Canadian entry for Oscars is Water by Deepa Mehtha.

You can take an Indian out of India, but you can never take India out of an Indian. If you disagree with me on this point, wait till your children are ready for marriage and watch what you'll do !.

To sum up, India is proceeding at such a fast pace even with all the negatives, how much time would it require to build roads, airports and ports ?. Look at what Laloo has done for the Railways. The railways middle management is getting Laptops, cellular phones and cars for Diwali.

children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Great observation. It seems you are keen reader of Indian business news papers.

To add to what shankara said, shortly we are in a stage of 2nd green revolution. This will change the lifestyles of farmers. Reliance is starting a mega super market chain just like Walmart. It is said to be mother of all investments. Already he has bought huge chunk of lands all across India to set up Cold storage warehouses, mini airports, agriculture land. Will be setting up huge agriculture training center to train farmers all across india. His Supply chain people will directly buy from farmers and sell in his food bazar. Next to the cold storage area there will be mini airports handling this cargo movement all across India. Investments planned 30,000 crores. Employee target 50 Lac in ten years directly indirectly.

Since no middle man will be involved almost all goods will be priced at discount. This will further pep up its sales.

Please hold your breadth, Bharti, Tata, Birla, ITC all are eyeing this new sector of Retailing. Total investment planned in Retailing sector by Corporate india is 1,50,000 crores in next 5-10 years.

Walmart, Tesco, Carrefour, and other top retailers are frequently visiting india and asking govt to open this sector.

Believe if farmers starts doing well and get the benefit of reforms than sky is the limit for indias overall growth. All parties will then unite to further open up indian economy.

Reliance is planning Maha Mumbai SEZ with Investment of another 30 K crs in an area of 35 000. He has already got the land. It will set up biggest port in India in Navi Mumbai, mini airport, township for 1 million family, plus Industrial investments to tune of 1,00, 000 crores in this area.

Reliance, Infosys are the leaders and others following them. They have changed total mindset of corporates. All are now thinking big on a global scale

Orissa/Jharkand- rich in iron ore is expected to get investment of 2 Lac crore to set up Steel industries by Tata, Jindal, Mittal, Posco.

This all plan are not on the paper most of them have kicked off. Reliance retail if opening in Hyderabad this month.

I am not sure if we can have the infrastructure like it is there in NA, but one thing is for sure, there will be huge difference in this country in next 15 yrs.

There is no concept of hiking, river rafting, cycling, tennis, any sports, swimming. If our kids wants to play hockey, tennis or swimming then here we are fine and she/he can play with boys or girls.
That is different story that I notice a big population here in Canada live like Punjab village even they are here from long time.

Its obvious that you see many advantages of being in NA compared to India. I feel the same way too. However, not all people are the same and different things appeal to different people. Whats important to you MAY NOT be important to someone else for many reasons. I really dont think there is much of a need to compare. Unless ofcourse you are trying to convince yourself that your choice of North America over India is the right one. You like your home...why worry about how dirty the neighbour's is :)? Let the neighbour decide what to do with their home.

Preferably in a ST/ST/OBC family ...

come on guys, you must be joking here ? India will always be a would be superpower, and never can be a true superpower.

Reasons are aplenty but some of them are listed below:
1.) Caste/Caste/Caste...
2.) Guju's/Punju's/Tam's/Bongs.... did I hear someone say Indians ?
("Bapu kehte, desh toh apna ho gaya par log paraye ho gaye";)
3.) Corruption, Corruption and more Corruption
(Sorry Munnabhai, tumhara Gandhigiri screen par theek hai par real life sab log yeda ho gaye hain)
.
.
.
.
and many more stuff

I dunno abt being superpower but I believe we will live to see another partition of India.
I also think there is going to be huge genocide of Hindus sometime in next 200 yrs. It might be already happening in Kashmir and north East but I believe 21st century will finally see demise of hinduism as a living breathing growing religion and it will be taken over by more aggressive religions or philosophy like Islam or communism..

Wishful thinking at best!

We all know how statistics are 'created' n 'presented' to suit the purpose.

Cite 1 example in the past 55+ yrs when planning commission actually achieved even 50% of its goals...

PC's job is to 'plan' only - not to execute.

Hope I am proved false 'atleast' this time.
