YES !.
In a recent survey in India more than 50% of the respondents wanted to be reborn in India in their next birth.
Yes ! India is a dirty place with garbage piled up, people urinating and defecating on the road side, with caste problems and other related problems.
But what we count out is the population and the percentage of the population of youth who are bright, ambitious and want a better life. They have an undying fire in their belly to move up and make a better life for themselves in turn bring up their society around them.
For Eg: Since 2004, there has been an explosion in terms of employment, investment, information and technology in India. EVERY Tom, Dick and Harry carries a cellphone if not two. All the major corporations in the world are setting shop in India with India as its major market. Indian economy is based on its consumption than exports like China.
India has the highest number of educated, highly skilled professionals in all fields and with education being made more accessible we would have more educated and skilled people in times to come.
In terms of Investments, entrepreneurial skills Indians are second to none. Look at the case of the Maran brothers from Tamil Nadu. They have made SUN TV a billion Dollar company and have been instrumental in bringing in Who is Who of the world to invest in Tamil Nadu. If two brothers can do it, how many more are there to follow.
If India fixes its infrastructure we will be a force to reckon with in the next 10 years. Just wait and watch President Kalams dream of 2020 will be achieved by 2015.
The evidence of the spectacular growth is something what I can see in my own family. Here I've just completed my 3 years in Canada and waiting to move to USA, while my brother who is in mid 30's is a Director in Nokia - Cellular Phone multinational making US $ salaries sitting in India. My neighbour in India, is the Director - Strategic Planning - Asia Pacific for Phillips Semi Conductor Division chauffeur driven Merc in India. These guys are buying up condos in Hiranandanis and Farm houses in Whitefield, Bangalore. At any given time they have 3 recruiters trying to recruit them and they are talking of handling Rs.400 to 600 Crores annual budgets.
Just to put a sword through my already bleeding heart, the guy who sat in the next cubicle of mine in Mumbai is the Managing Director of BOC India handling an annual turnover of Rs.800 Crores. They were all Managers and Senior Managers in October 2003. While I'm still talking about hourly rates and talking about $ or 2 increases.
Yes grass is greener on the other side, but there is a big problem in terms of technological and scientific investment/advancement in Canada. This is going to decide the future in the next 20 years. I do not see a Noble Prize winner in Science and Technology from Canada, I see a plenty of them from India. Just look at the recent Booker prize winner. Just adding Bollywood ring tones is a not a technological advance by a Cell Phone company.
Most of the R&D centres are all being moved to India, while the Pharma giants from India are investing in Mexico and Canada. I know many Pharma companies in Ontario who are Laying off people sometimes 100's of them, while Indian companies are hiring at will.
Whether we like it or not Reliance, Bharti, TATA, Birla, Goenkas and others are the global brands of the near future. It has been proven by the Mittals and others are following quietly.
Just look at the movie Don starring SRK. The watch company called Tag-Haeur have designed a new watch called Monaco 69 for this. How many movies in Hollywood in recent times did something like that. Your own Wal-Mart has a section for Bollywood movies now a days. Brangelina are sitting Pune as we speak. The Canadian entry for Oscars is Water by Deepa Mehtha.
You can take an Indian out of India, but you can never take India out of an Indian. If you disagree with me on this point, wait till your children are ready for marriage and watch what you'll do !.
To sum up, India is proceeding at such a fast pace even with all the negatives, how much time would it require to build roads, airports and ports ?. Look at what Laloo has done for the Railways. The railways middle management is getting Laptops, cellular phones and cars for Diwali.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Population, pollution, corruption was a big problem, is a big problem and same in future. The biggest problem is civic sense.
......
There is no concept of hiking, river rafting, cycling, tennis, any sports, swimming. If our kids wants to play hockey, tennis or swimming then here we are fine and she/he can play with boys or girls.
That is different story that I notice a big population here in Canada live like Punjab village even they are here from long time.

I dunno abt being superpower but I believe we will live to see another partition of India.
I also think there is going to be huge genocide of Hindus sometime in next 200 yrs. It might be already happening in Kashmir and north East but I believe 21st century will finally see demise of hinduism as a living breathing growing religion and it will be taken over by more aggressive religions or philosophy like Islam or communism..
