Hi Everyone:

I would like to know about where our Desi friends are doing ? I know about RRSP & RESP but apart from that does anyone invest money safely and still getting good returns.

Please let me know. Any comments will be appreciated..

To clarify something (you probably know this anyway) - but investing in RRSP and RESP does not mean that it is secure.

Security and risk are a factor of the instrument of investment (i.e. stock, bond, GIC, etc.) and not a factor of the tax status of the investment.

RESP and RRSP are simply tax-sheltered investments and nothing makes them any more secure than non sheltered investments.

You could invest your entire RRSP in diamond mining stocks in Rwanda and your all of your non-registered investment in GICs.

Hope you got the point.

Secure investments if held to maturity.

1. GICs
2. Bonds.
3. 100 % guaranteed segregated funds.
4. 100% plus guaranteed mutual funds.

These are a few capital conserving investments that come to mind right off the top of my head.

Also what do you mean by good returns? 4-5%? 8-10%? 12-14%?

And also what do you mean by safe at one point and your heading says securely?

2nd mortgages are secured investments, but how safe are they? And again it depends on one's definition of safe.

Maybe some mortgage pros can help us out on this.

I will second that request. Maybe some mortgage professionals can start a separate thread discussing the pros and cons of second mortgages.
